    Default Cotto Planning Retirement!

Taken from Fightnews - Boxing News Updated 24/7

The three-time world champion Miguel Cotto, has declared in Puerto Rico that he expects to retire from boxing when he turns 30 on October 29, 2010. “Ten months will fly by, so one, maybe two more fights, and I will completely retire from boxing,” he said. “I’ve been champion three times and I’m satisfied with what I’ve done. I’ll be very satisfied with whatever God gives me the opportunity to achieve during the ten months remaining.” Cotto is expected back in the ring in June against an opponent to be named.

Seems about right. I'm a big Cotto fan! Although I'm sad that he's about done, I can't say I didn't see it coming. Cotto peaked with Mosley.

What he needs first is a couple of easy fights against nobody. And then decide if he should retire or not.

Not surprising really, for me Cotto has lost his killer instinct and he is much slower than he used to be. It's safe to say the Margaritio loss had a big effect on him.

I support that, the guy has been in nothing but wars his entire career he should retire and enjoy what he earned with his family.

    NO!! NO!! NO!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I did not just read that! I did not just read that! I did not just read that!!!

WTF!!!! He always said that he was going to retire at 32, and when he just turned 29 in October, I told myself that I need to start to preparing myself for just a couple more years of watching, and adoring him.

One or two more fights!!!!!! I'm not ready to let him go yet!!!!

Jesus, there's not anyone that even comes close to taking his place yet as a favorite fighter.

My frickin heart just fell into my stomach, and I think that I'm going to be sick.

That just ruined me. Thanks for the news Pride of Ballsack.

Cotto is making the right decision, he should go out with a bang, go for another title at light middle. But definitely stay retired.

I am ok with the decision and I can respect it. Being he is still of a somewhat early age, I just hoe he doesn't take a few years off, get a little stir crazy and come back worse off than when he left. Was never a huge fan of Cotto like some, but he was never in a boring fight and gave it 110% all the time and have nothing but respect for him. Good luck to him

Well, you'll always have the 24/7 pool scenes.

And so do the rest of us.

Cotto has had a hell of a career, he improved, he adjusted and he fought the best fighters available to him. I have no problem with his retirement it's a HOF worthy career already IMO. He did Puerto Rico proud.

go for a belt at 154 and it would cap off a great career!

Been in to many wars, and is in a similar position to Hatton now!

Never know we could still see Hatton- Cotto come to think of it!

    Aww, sorry, love

You had to see it coming, though.

What really pissed me off was people dogging him after the Clottey fight. Josh Clottey is a very good fighter and Cotto fought a grueling fight and came up the winner. People started questioning him which was faily unwarranted taking Clottey's skill into account.

Fact is, though, that he is one of those guys that fights with all his heart and if he loses a step... a millisecond of reaction... or begins to get off second... he's a different fighter.

He peaked at Mosley and at that point, seeing how young he still was, I figured that his rise was limitless... I didn't think he'd hit a wall like that but we forget these guys are human sometimes due to the superhuman things we witness them do.

Cotto was/is a special fighter and truely did step into the shoes of Tito and carried his country on his shoulders.

    My hat off to him.

I am glad to hear a boxer planning his retirement. Especially one of the likes of Cotto. Too many wars and too obvious of an effect on him. Glad to see Cotto planning to go out on his own.

I'd only wanna see that fight at welterweight, though... Just so I could see if Cotto would give hatton a rematch with the ringpost to make it 2-0 for the ringpost.

I think with a couple of wins he might just change his mind. But if he does then I blame that damn Margacheato for the early departure.
