Default Juan Manuel Marquez - who should he face if he doesn't win the Pacquiao sweepstakes?

At this point, for better or worse, it looks like Shane Mosley is the front-runner for the fight with Pacquiao. There are a lot of JMM fans on this site (milmas, VD etc.). Who would you like to see him fight?

To make a better case that he deserves the Pacquiao fight, Marquez should face someone accomplished at 140 or 147. The winners of the Khan/Maidana fight and the Bradley/Alexander fight at 140 seem like good choices as would Andre Berto at 147 (they fought on same card). As much as Soto deserves the pay day against Marquez at 135, I don't see the point for Marquez if Marquez wants to set himself up for a fight with Pacquiao. Same goes with Robert Guerrero.

Khan vs Marquez will more likely to happen. Roach has been drooling for it.

why is it that just because mosley is a welterweight, most of you think he is more qualified to fight pacquiao than marquez is. the man is washed up!!! what more can you get out of mosley but a 39 year old man who is way past it. he hasn't had a great fight (less margarito) in about 5 years.

and just because marquez is a lightweight most of you seem to forget that he is the thorn on pacquiao's side and you all know this. it isn't as if the two times marquez fought pacquiao he was destroyed or wasn't competitive! that's why most of the fans want to see a trilogy and not some fraud of a fight between a fighter like pacquiao and another washed up fighter.

and bobo arum is delusional if he thinks pacquiao/mosley would sell more than marquez/pacquiao. mosley doesn't have a whole lot of backing anymore especially after his last two duds. while marquez, even though he's 37 yo., can still fight and has a big mexican-american fan base who would buy this ppv.

this is what i take, i believe arum wants mosley because 1. he's old and "can't pull the trigger anymore" and 2. he knows marquez' style would make pacquiao not look as good as he has been when fighting weight drained, older, slow fighters. i truly believe arum, roach and pacquiao are afraid to test marquez again because deep in their hearts, they know they lost their rematch 3 years ago.

If JMM-Pac doen't happen i would love to see JMM-Khan. I think it would be a very exciting fight. Milmascaras i agree Pac-Mosley is a horrible fight, people seen what floyds speed did to mosley, they should expect the same from Pac.

No one can be critical of Katsidis for who he fights, Amir Khan needs to either get Katsidis in the ring or Marquez if he wants respect and big money in the USA.

    fenster,

even if mosley would sell more than marquez, it wouldn't be for very much more. the thing is this, arum is overly protective of pacquiao. it happens fight after fight after fight. that, you cannot deny, can you?

So you're saying Arum is ducking a fighter he's already put Pacquaio in with twice? Hmmm... not sure about this john

i'm absolutely saying arum is ducking marquez because he knows pacuqiao was lucky to get the split decision! simple as that! after seeing mosley throw up two straight stinkers, do you actually think he would make for a better fight than marquez would? come on dude, you know styles make fights and marquez just has that style to make pacuqiao look somewhat ordinary. if we're talking about a mosley of five years ago, then it would be different cause mosley would KO pacquiao early but he's 39 and worse yet, he looks it. marquez doesn't look his age, boxing wise. in fact, on the night marquez beat katsidis, one of the announcers mentioned that nacho beristain told him that marquez' doctor said he had the body of a 24 year old, that's why he continues to perform as effectively as he has been.

Tickets being sold for Marquez / Pacquiao have very little to do with Marquez. Your example to look at the his recent fight with Katsidis and Berto on the under card. Mosley has a proven following.

I think a good match up for Marquez is Bradley at 140lbs. It's a better Match up for Marquez than Khan because Khan's style is more outside and Marquez can't handle outside boxers.

so no Andre Berto or any of the guys at 140? don't you think that is the best way to set up a fight with Pac?

That is on both sides as well.

    Fight I (2004)

Juan Manuel Marquez promoted by Arum
    vs
Manny Pacquiao promoted by Murad Muhammad

    Fight II ( 2008 )

Juan Manuel Marquez promoted by GBP
    vs
Manny Pacquiao promoted by Bob Arum

I would prefer Marquez as well but i cant blame Arum for looking for the most money. Shane is a very Good kicker when facing a Star.

    So many fighters for JMM

    Sotto
    Antillon
    Jorge Linares
    Amir Khan
