I think the strategy was to allow Calzaghe to expend his energy for an assault in the later rounds.

A mighty task to try and acomplish!!!
I guess, it backfired horribly, I felt treuely sad to see Roy lose that night

In truth, he realised he was fucked. It was almost like a death rattle.

This night really broke my heart. I was hoping that Roy could role back the clock for one night and at the end of the first it looked like he might just do it, but that was the last real moment of glory for Roy and the only reason he saw the final bell was because Joe let him!
As for the macho act I think he knew he had little to no chance and was trying to show fans he could tough it out. It was a sad sad sight!!
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
@erics44
Explain what u mean by that!
I would have had more sympathy for Jones had he not made a career out of mocking opponents. He even tried doing it to Joe in round 1 and 2. After the KD he was looking out the ring showboating trying to humiliate Joe so once Calzaghe turned the tide in his favour he began doing it back to Jones but went over the top with it. He really tried to embarass Roy in a way nobody could imagine. Its one thing landing a lucky punch on an ageing Jones but Joe completely outclassed him, made him miss and taunted him. Towards the end Roy must have been hoping that Joe knocked him out to save the humiliation but Calzaghe was happy to put on a boxing exhibition
