Default Is Mayweather Jr. really worth the PPV mega-bucks he gets for his "fights"?

I honestly don't get it, i'd much rather watch a couple dozen other fighters that aren't even on PPV, then sit though one of Mayweather Jr's snoozefests, much less have to pay money to see him. Jr. fights like once a year, and gets these huge paydays, what's so special about a Mayweather fight, the action in them all seems mediocre to me.

    Thoughts?

Well he does the sales so he obviously is. If you don't want to watch him, an easy solution is not to buy his PPVs, I presume no one is forcing you.

It's not like he's earning money for regular HBO appearances, he's generating them through his own PPVs at a 1m+ sales a time.

He has probably the best resume of any active fighter aside from possibly Manny Pacquiao, and he gets in the ring and has to fight (which is what it is). Just like Pacquiao, he can't be held responsible for being so dominant, he's there to win.

Perhaps so many people buy his PPV hoping that finally he will be humilitated? How would anyone want to miss that?

Right but they're still paying for his PPVs. Also Mayweather is a big star in the black community, you should see my facebook page when he fights, people with no interest in boxing (particularly women) are all talking about his fight. I can only imagine it is even more so over in the States.

Like I said, as long as he pulls in those numbers, he's worth money he's getting, regardless of why people are tuning in.

I guess there are people who think boxing is all about getting in the middle of the ring and throwing wild punches from beginning to end. Floyd is a master of defense and finess when it comes to style. Seems most people don't like that, that's fine.

The fights he is in generate a certain number of PPV buys. This in turn correlates to the purse he receives. So yes, he is worth exactly what he receives. Whether he is 'exciting' or not.

Obviously yes since his so called "fans" keep giving it to him. Let's say he isn't should he be a good guy and give back the part he doesn't deserve ? Floyd and any other fighter is worth whatever they can get. They don't rob any of us for our cash. Everyone purchases the ppv's freely. Ask roy jones, t hearns, and vargas how stupid floyd is for asking for ridiculous amounts of cash. Constant threads about a guy not even fighting is part of the reason he gets the money he does. His haters put way more in his pocket than his fans do......just to have them complain about it. If a greeter at wal mart works out a deal where he gets 40 bucks an hour is he wrong for cashing his paychecks or are the people giving it to him the dumb ones ?

Whilst I hate him his skills are undeniable and for those 2 reason he is worth paying for.

That's probably due to media hype? There are a few black top P4P fighters that the black communities could cheer for instead.

No not at all. Dude is boring as hell to watch. Talented yes, boring dreadfully yes. Since he also rarely tests himself vs. top flight competition the fight are usually one sided. He's a defensive cutie trying to avoid contact at all costs.

    Last 6 fights on PPV:

Mosley - 1st 3 rounds were interesting, then a blowout
JMM - 1st round were interesting, then a blowout
Hatton - Cortez never allowed Ricky into the fight but it was a great KO
    Oscar - Boring as hell
    Baldomir - Boring as hell
Zab - 1st 4 rounds were interesting, then a blowout

You cannot blame for blowing out Shane and Zab, that is class fighter.

Isn't that the name of the game, hit and not be hit. But as far as his PPV's, yes he is boring to watch for the most part. It's the casual boxing fan who buy's the PPV which makes the numbers go up. The people who only watch 3-4 fights a year, the pacquiao, floyd, mosley fights.

Floyd did 1.05 million PPV buys with JMM and he did 1.4 million buys with Mosley. Now let's do the math.

    1.05 million x $54.99= $57,739,500
    1.4 million x $54.99= $76,986,000

Total for 2 of those fights for ppv revenue= $134,725,500

And that's just the ppv revenue only, we're not talking about the gate and also possibly he is pulling people to Vegas to spend their cash on vacations and betting in the city. So hell yeah he's worth it in America's capitalistic society. He's generating tens of millions of dollars for everyone of his fights now. He deserves his pay.

Come on really? Zab was coming off a loss (in which he was almost KO'd by Baldomir) and Mosley was 8-5 with 4 clear-cut loses and 2 debatable wins vs. Oscar and the 1st Vargas fight. No argument about Floyd's fighting ability at all; just his choice of opposition.
