Ray was one of a kind, the beating Duran laid on him was savage and Ray stopped him in the rematch, and Hearns gave him a good fight too and Ray hung in there.

Well said. I've always thought that regardless of what one thought of the decision (I get a draw every time I watch it), Ray put on one of THE remarkable performances one will ever see that night. But it only went 12

Yep, Ray did have a mean streak, but he always seemed humble outside the ring. (at least in regard to boxing) And I agree, I can't imagine what you could do against a guy like Leonard, who in most cases would be head and shoulders above you in talent/skill, speed and punching power.
