Default Bantamweight tourney final - Agbeko vs. Mares fight thread

This should be a decent night of Boxing, especially if you like the little warriors.

    August 13

Let's make this the fight thread, the card starts at 10:00 PM EST, tonight.

I'm taking Mares in a close decision. I have really liked this tournament, it's been very quick and no BS in between matches besides Agbeko's collapse before the first scheduled fight with Mares. Quick and to the point, 4 best bantamweights. It will be nice to see it come to a end and see the winner possibly fight Donaire.

I'd rather see Donaire KO Agbeko, than Mares, and I really don't believe Mares beats Agbeko anyway, but that's just me.

I'm goin with Mares. He's a sensational talent. Lighting fast.

Agbecko is very awkard, quick and a hard puncher himself.

He smashed Perez last time out.

Not terribly thrilling? Really. Bantam tourney has been solid and these two are very under the radar and glad its coming off. Agbeko has improved his boxing quite abit and picks spots more but I worry how much his issues are weight related. Mares mixes well and body will pay many taxes on Joseph but I think Agbeko takes him deep and pulls off solid dec win.

I hopped on tha Mares bandwagon the first time I saw him on the Golden Boy "Fight Night" show what 3 years ago? I think he had 13-14 fights at that time but even then he was a dedicated bodypuncher I began calling "whack-whack-whack" because he'd triple up on those hokks to the ribs.

Agbaeko is going to be a real test.

If everyone will just stay home this division could be a real treat over the next 2-3 years.

Mares takes this one. I wonder if he fights Donaire afterward.

I gotta admit that I have only seen these guys a couple of times but I think Agbeko takes him to a clear cut decision win. Also I think Agbeko vs Donaire is a more intriguing match up style wise......but thats just my opinion.

I like both of these guys, Mares was fantastic against Vic and i had him winning that fight despite Vic disputing the decision. Agbeko is a tough guy, Mares will have to be at the top of his game again to win and i think he can. I guess Vic fights the winner again after this?

Good tournament, would have been better if Agbeko didn't have issues. But one shouldn't complain as King Kong is a tough fighter and things do happen in athletics.

I favor Mares ever so slightly in the final.

And Vic who finished 1-1 will not have hurt himself with his performances. He still should be in line for another big fight soon.

Perez clearly looked like the big loser and didn't look good physically in either fight. Only 32, but if my memory isn't gone he had alot of amateur fights and he has had some tough pro fights (including 2 with Agbeko, 1 with Mares, 1 with Vic).

Darchinyan is still in the mix, in a way, before he retires, i'd like to see him get another crack at Donaire, but at this point in his career, I believe Vic would get starched in a rematch. Donaire seems to be on a different level from most pugs in his weight class.

Abner Mares is like a little JMM, i've been impressed with him for awhile. When i was seeing him on undercards, i hope he wins but Joseph Agbeko is no joke and its very hard to pick a winner.
