Default Larry Holmes vs. Evander Holyfield

George Foreman gets a lot of credit for his gutsy performance against Evander at age 42.

But, its often forgotten that Larry Holmes at age 42 performed VERY WELL against Holyfield.

Harold Ledderman, who always scores for the up and coming fighter, had it 115-113 for Holyfield.

I just finished watching the fight and I had it a draw, with Larry winning 6 rounds, and taking the championship rounds.

That brings back some memories. I remember Larry fighting often on USA's Tuesday night fights and always talking smack and jumping off cars lol. Larry had also beaten a tough undefeated Ray Mercer in his 40's as well, right before that fight.

Styles make fights is all I can say.....still a Foreman-Holmes match up in the 1990's would have been something, they should have fought at one point in time. I think if they had, Larry looks phenomenal until George hurts him and then doesn't let him off the hook the way Shavers et al did.

I remember having that much wider then most but yeh Holmes fought like a fox at that stage. He defined crafty-cagey and all critical talk at time aside for that one..he earnnned that shot by almost white washing Mercer, who majority were picking to destroy Larry. I think that nasty gash effected Holyfield quite a bit and he did well to adjust and get Holmes body.

The post script was Holmes vomitting all over the corner on camera. Don't see that too often, thankfully!

Haha yes that was gross. Holmes was exhausted.

And yeah the cut def helped bring Holmes back into the fight as it distracted Holyfield quite a bit.

Larry got the title fight because he beat the undefeated Mercer handily and probably one of his finest performances. Holmes did lose against Holyfield however and I remember Holmes acknowledging the strength and condition of Holyfield but basically saying he was a limited fighter. I thought it was a good fight but at the time Holyfield was getting criticism for fighting and struggling with Cooper and Holmes, fighters he should have easily beat. Remember Holmes vomiting at the end of the fight too.

Yes I feel the same way. On the one hand Larry came in on short notice and was past it...

On the other hand he wasn't past it by THAT much...
