Default Boxing Professionally in the United States?

So, I've always boxed, and I've always wanted to box professionally.

How easy is it to get a license in the states? What should I think about when I begin pursuing fights on a professional level?

Contact your state athletic commission; your state may even have a boxing commission. You should worry about your connections and if there is money behind you. If you have a trainer or matchmaker or financial backer with juice, maybe you'll get fights that will allow you to learn and grow as a fighter. If not, you'll get thrown to the wolves, on short notice, ill-prepared, etc...against guys that do have those things.

Don't mean to hijack, but can anyone put more personal emphasis the "dirty" of the business. How would you protect your fighters? What people to watch out for? So on and so forth?

    Alright.

See, I want to fight in another state. There's not a lot of gyms in my city, and I've never heard of any boxing events going down in my state. Is it plausible to be a professional fighter that is self-trained and just shows up for the fight?

Yes, it happens all the time. Usually a cornerman will be provided for you...and then you'll be fed to the wolves.
