Brandon Rios fails to make weight for lightweight world title fight - ESPN

He failed to make weight again! It is starting to disgust me how he wont move up in weight but wont ever make his own weight. It says 2nd time but I think its the 3rd time? He has to move up or just go away. Thoughts?

I think that a second failed attempt, he won't have choice to move up; no serious promoters will ever believe him again and they won't risk to have an overweight guy on the balance, especially when he did already fail 2 times before.

He (Rios) looks really weight drained. I really hate when fighter have to kill themselves to make weight. Reminds me of Ricky Hatton when he fought Manny. Upset could be in the works tonight.

I hope so. He didnt bother making the wieght when he fought Murray either but it gives him a real advantage in the fight. Whilst everyone else struggles to make the contractually agreed limit he doesnt bother then comes in stronger than the weight drained opponent. Its unfair and Castillo started the trend it seems and his Countrymen are following in his footsteps.

This guy shouldn't have been allowed to fight at LW, it's obvious he can't make it and may not even have intended to. He weighed 137, then came back 2 hours later and had actually put on 2 lbs.. wtf? Who does that. To top it off there is no second weigh in as there was for Murray, Rios can put on as much weight as he wants now before the fight.
What kind of precident does this set if they are going to just keep fining guys a small % of their purse for pulling this kind of crap. It's a tremendous advantage for the naturally bigger guy to get away with this, who knows how it would have effected Rios had he actually worried about being 135. From the little I've seen of Abril he isn't strong enough to keep Rios off him as it is, let alone a welterweight Rios.

not fair to try and peg the trend of coming into a weigh in overweight on Castillo, he did it a number of times but it's not like he was the first guy to do it

Seem's to me he is taking the piss out of his opponents, not making the weight if he can't make the weight move up simple.

I dont hate the guy...never met him, couldn't tell you the first thing about him outside the ring, but I hate what he represents in the sport and we are seeing more and more of it. It shouldn't be giving a pass and guys knowing they can break off a few thousand bucks and be done with it just encourages this stuff. I would very much enjoy watching him get his ass dusted and that stupid hyena laugh with it. Fat twat!

The lack of professionalism from Rios is a joke, and to a certain extent from Garcia too. He shouldn't actually be sanctioned to fight again at Lightweight. Obviosuly due to finances this would never happen, but to make a beautiful statement Abril should have just walked, as he will undoubtedly be outweigh i'll guess by atleast 10lbs or more.

All this forced making weight and fights at lightweight for Rios makes me wonder if they KNOW he gets a beating when he fights someone his own size.

I wonder how Rios would fair fighting a guy his own size, a welterweight. He's probably a monster lightweight and a POS welter

I used to like Castillo. But Rios is an idiot. He's got no respect for the fight game, and is nothing but a punk who's too lazy to make weight. Screw him.

Its why I was not suprised that Gamboa said fook it. He knew, Rios knew and many should have known Rios was coming in at least 140-145. For a undefeated guy with a future and name who hasn't even fought 135, I'm glad he didn't give that to this clown.

It's true. Unfortunately, the commentators were raking Gamboa over the coals on this one. They should take the whole story into consideration before making irresponsible comments.
