Default Shannon Briggs making a comeback on February 23rd

Boxing News | Shannon Briggs Making Comeback!

Shannon Briggs is to make a comeback on February 23rd. He is fighting Kerston Manswell (24-8 18KO's) of Trinidad & Tobago. Briggs hasn't fought since his beating from Vitali in 2010. Not sure this is the best idea.

Heavyweight seems to be a bit of an old peoples residential home these days.

Hmm, Briggs is one of my favourite HWs so I'm happy about this.

He took a pounding from Vitali but a lot of his fights were very short so he didn't have a brutal career, plus he's had a long rest since the Klitschko fight.

He's 42 but tbh I'd bet on Briggs to beat half the idiots out there now.

    Probably still Americas best HW.

These days? It always has been! I was super high on the unbeaten Briggs, I thought he was going to be the real deal. That was nearly two decades ago, and apart from the technical 'lineage title' he 'won' from Big George, Briggs, although sometimes fun to watch, never quite made it big.

The only other soft-fight he could have taken with the same level of eyes on him would be if he fought another perennial punching bag like Owen Beck. Manswell is just good enough for Briggs to look good against- but will be pummeled.

Briggs can shoot back into the mix right now... he doesn't deserve a shot at Wlad, God I hope they don't give him a shot against Wlad right off of the rip.

A Briggs vs one of the new, young guns.... Jennings, Scott, Wilder and/or Ruiz would be good for both parties.

Arreola and Stiverne may not be what he needs or they need.... but after he crushes Manswell, get right in there with a new young gun.

    Glad he's back.

Against Haye I gave Fury a fighters chance but if Briggs is in shape he'd kill Fury.

No way on this planet Fury can KO Briggs I don't care how old he is. Plus I doubt Fury could stay up to Briggs power.

Depending on how he's been living and stuff he would still be top ten in my eyes.

Shannon Briggs has had a good long successful career. I think he has a convenient excuse for a few losses (citing his asthma) but he was a real force in the division for a minute and he had a Prime Lennox Lewis in trouble early in their fight. I think his style, his physical attributes (great hand speed, he was tall, in good shape usually), and his attitude made him a very decent fighter. Now he's no all time great but for recent history he's a top rate heavyweight.

I'm not sure how he'll cope in boxing now at his advanced age but I'd still give him a punchers chance vs Fury....he clipped Vitali pretty good in their fight and to say that means Tyson Fury would have been picking his ass up off the canvas.

Apparently he's being lined up to face either Tyson or Hughie Fury on Frank Warrens card in April.

Briggs should retire and stay retired! His big problem was always his stamina, complicated by asthma. He only went the distance (12rds) in a hand full of fights, if he didn't knock you out, he always faded (terribly) in the late rounds. Unless they've found some new drug (probably illegal anyway) it's going to be more of the same. I don't have anything against Briggs, but do we need a 3rd tier gate keeper.
Hey, I'm from the USA, miracle comebacks are in my blood, but not this time.
Move over, step aside and let the young guys have their day.

This works in his favour. He didn't have a brutal career.

Let's not get too far from reality. Professional boxing and brutal go hand in hand. Pro boxing is brutal. Don't let these "sweet science" and "the beauty of boxing" guys tell you what to think.
Every time you see a boxer staggered a little, his brain just suffered a disconnect from the rest of his nervous system.
I love boxing, I could watch it every nite. I like that one on one contest of skill, stamina and heart, but to me it's not sweet or beautiful. That's just my opinion. I'm pretty sure yours is a little different. Lol

Briggs looks in good shape. He's been posting his progress over the last few weeks on Facebook, skinned his head got in shape and if he wants to give it a go I wish him well. He can't any worse than Rahman, Mitchell etc so let's see what he brings

I know he's historically struggled with asthma and had a lazy pace but his conditioning appears as good as it can be for a man his age. I can see him being a test for wilder

Shannon Briggs is one of the most overblown push jobs in recent memory. He's a great personality and oozes charisma but seriously, he has one win over abtop ten heavy and a last minute brick at that, in his entire career. His "win" over Foreman was a farce. Hate to sound the bitter old man, he's not going anywhere. He may get a win over Manswell and then he'll fade back to the celebrity circuit.
