But Santa Cruz wants the fight. But the fact of the matter is when faced with an easy way out, like Haymon provides, then it is a real no brainer- he can jump from making 100k per fight to well over 500k and up per fight. Particularly when the main reason you got into the fight game was to make money.

The *NEW* Rules of Thump for picking a promoter/manager:

    1. Haymon can get you the money in the quickest and easiest way possible.

    2. Top Rank and Golden Boy can get you MEGA MILLIONS, but it comes with extreme risk and a loss or two.

    3. Shaw/Roc/Duva can get you the title shot you are looking for, and even ensure that you get some mandatory defences along the way, but no where near the kind of clout the aforementioned have.

    4. Don King's career as a promoter is OVER.

eh.. I doubt hes ducking as much as hes trying to get paid. Rigo would take the money too, if offered. The problem is the way he fights coupled with his vanilla persona makes it hard for someone to promote him for that kind of money. which is why noone has. Master technician but no draw. The best thing that could happen to this guy is that he gets ko'd by someone. The vulnerability would add to his marketing prospect.
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

He was still under valid contract with Oscar Sounds like Oscar was more interested in off loading the kitchen sink than running what remains of his house. Santa Cruz doesn't strike me as the ducking type and frankly Rigos people need to remember that roughly a year ago Hbo or Showtime had to ask him about 6,7 times how to spell his name on the check

It's not Santa Cruz, it's his people who aren't willing to make the fight. He came out with that line a while back about demanding 3 million, when there is no way the fight would ever happen for that combined when all is said and done. I don't see how Rigo is going to become a draw, but how could losing possibly help him:confused: He's already shown enough vulnerability, Donaire dropped him well and his last fight was great for instance, people just aren't watching I guess...

I think Oscar knew that Haymon was going to exercise the buyout clause in his contract and was just talking to the media/Rigo's promoters about making a Rigondeaux fight as a way of getting back at Haymon because he knew what was coming.

Haymon would never in a million years want to match Santa Cruz with Rigondeaux especially with Rigondeaux potentially signing with this new rapper. And I think if Haymon didn't exist and Oscar still had full control over Santa Cruz then Oscar would never in a million years want to make the Rigo fight either. Same thing goes for Frampton or Quigg or anybody else at 122.

It's not like the networks even want to show more Rigo fights. HBO don't want anything to do with him anymore and Showtime aren't going to pay serious money to show somebody who is definitely not a TV fighter.

Rigo is going to have to go to 126 and take the very short end of any purse to get back on the big networks and even then it might not happen. Imagine if they put him in with Walters and he makes Walters look stupid while boring the collective arse off HBO's subscribers. HBO seriously tarnish one of their top TV knockout fighters and are stuck with a boring Cuban their subscribers don't want to watch. I can see Rigo's options being more fights against Japanese nobodies or some undercard fight on a big US promotion where he's told if you don't look good it doesn't get broadcast and you don't get back on the network.
