I said this was a dumb fight, it was going to be a mismatch, it was going to be worse than Khan/Malignaggi, ect. Well he proved me and most others wrong. Good for him for getting rid of his old trainer (who will forever hold the distinction of giving him THE WORST game plan in boxing history vs Pac) and hooking up with JDJ.
He fought the best fight he possibly could: he was aggressive, he was awkward, and he kept busy - all the while being defensively aware. I went from thinking he was a bum to wanting to see him in there with other top 147lbers. I don't know how you guys scored it but I thought it was VERY close and could have went either way by a point. Khan threw quick shoe-shine punches but never found a way to really land with consistency.
Khan tried to excuse his performance by saying "I wasn't expecting him to be aggressive". That doesn't cut it in championship boxing. A great fighter is prepared for any style and can adapt on the fly. Khan had some good moments in the mid to later rounds but was never really able to adapt.
Personally I couldn't give less of a fuck about a Mayweather/Khan fight. People who feel Khan is the guy to beat Mayweather are kidding themselves. It takes more than a pair of fast hands to beat Floyd (as we saw with Floyd/Pac). Khan's physical talent is enormous but he doesn't have the ring IQ needed to really put it together IMO.
