    Default Ray 'Windmill' White ~ 'A Character of the Sport of Boxing'

    Ray 'Windmill' White

    A fan favorite and super popular California Light-Heavyweight who competed from
    December 1958 -thru- June 1974.

    Ray White was famous for his 'Windmill-style' in punching, as well as 'hopping' and
    'jumping' around the Ring to baffle and confuses his opponents.

    At a 'gangling' {6' 4"}, Ray did not have the look of a Professional Boxer, but more of
    an Insurance Salesman.

    Ray's day job was that of a 'Carpenter' in Ventura, California - where he stated that
    pounding-nails toughened up his hands.

    But more in the 'Bag-of-Tricks of the man they called 'Windmill', was a wide variety of
    'trick punches' that he threw in the Ring.

    They were so unique, that Ray 'Windmill' White made 'guest' Television appearances on ;
    * 'The Tonight Show'
    * 'The Merv Griffin Show'
    * 'The Dinah Shore Show'

    White was as much entertainer as he was boxer, I saw him fight at the Olympic Auditorium and several other places around LA and the Valley (San Fernando Valley). I'm not saying he wasn't serious about the boxing, but if he could get a laugh in the ring he would. I really enjoyed his fights. Was glad to see he's still involved in boxing.
    Bill, I really enjoy the format.

    Thanks Been-Ko'ed,

    I have to check, but damn,

    Ray 'Windmill' White had a lot of Television bouts out in California.

    Definitely a 'fan favorite'.

    Born on August 5, 1938

    The unorthodox and gangling {6' 4"} Ray 'Windmill' White had an {82"} 'wingspan'. Sometimes
    when he punched, he looked like a 'Flapping Rooster'.

    While some of the Boxing Pundits called him a 'Laughable Spoof' and 'Crackpot', the boxing fans
    loved 'The Windmill' and his Ring antics.
