Only because Arreola was the runner up for the title when he fought Stiverne. But after that loss Arreola has done little to nothing. In fact, matching Wilder against Arreola now makes Wilder's match up with Eric Molina seem justified. Especially since Molina kept on fighting and in shape and showed up to give Wilder a run for his money.

When the venue is announced before the opponent you can almost guarantee its gonna be a ”gimme”. I knew it wasn’t gonna be anyone good like Povetkin when they said where
Wilders next fight is gonna be. Looks like he wants another easy defence before taking on a challenge but if it is Chris Arreola that’s a step up from what I was expecting. Hes lost twice to Stivern once by KO and is in terrible condition but that still represents a massive step up from Wilder and probably his second best opponent in his career.
You wouldn’t pick Arreola to win although I can see him giving a similar effort to Molina if not better. Wilder would need to follow the blueprint of how Vitali beat Chris because unlike Molina Chris could make him pay for missing with huge swings. Hes got to be patient and wear him down slowly. Theres a chance of an upset if Chris gets lucky and it’s a dangerous opponent for Deontay but logic suggests he should get the W here and set up a proper challenge with Povetkin.
Hes a world champ. 2 piss easy defences in a row is BS. Can you imagine Wlad fought Molina and then Arreola. THe abuse hed get.
I've been stating here that he should fight either Arreola, Briggs and/or both. It makes since $$ wise. PBC would do gr8 by it & the gate will probably sell out.
Casual fans don't give a rats ass about who is ranked and not. Both guys will make for an exciting fight & both guys are known to the casual fan. Briggs over the years & Arreola showcased by HBO for some years.
Wilder has at least a decade to continue NOT living up to the expectation of the die hard fans.
War Wilder War!
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!
Lets see how Chris looks in his "tune up" fight first. In his last he looked horrible, fat and hurt and like he didn't give two shats.
I get a hometown boy turned champion wanting to give back, enjoy the local fans etc..but Wilder needs to now get the hell outta Alabama if he ever hopes to grab massive attention and demand.
If arreola turns up motivated and in good shape then I think this is a fairly good opponent for wilder. Arreola has proved himself to be nothing great but I think when he is on his game he is clearly a class above the "bums" of the division, for example his fights v Molina, Seth Mitchell and even the first round of his last fight(before he tired horribly). There is certainly worse opponents for wilder, one of the links in the heavyweight fight schedule thread had him rumoured to fight the japanese heavyweight champion :S....
I like Arreola and hope he gets his life and conditioning back on track. Otherwise I fear for his career.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
All Arreola needs to lose focus is for a burrito truck to part outside his camp.
