A very bold move by the teenager it would seem.

The Japanese have the most deceiving records in all of boxing. They fight no soft touches and their numbers on the stat sheet are not as large yet there are a lot of 14 and 2 type guys that are world class, top of the food chain. They have a quality over quantity attitude.

Filipino's and Thai's have strange records. A lot of Filipino's are better than the W/L record show (Rey Megrino being a great example) whilst Thai's can be the opposite (Kongfah Nakornluang, Petch Sor Chitpattana)

Indeed and it can go the other way also. Chris John was poised to most likely go 50 and 0 after getting Marquez to an Indonesian parking lot. He cruised after that and went a little soft and then got the draw in the first Juarez fight.

Maruta has been highly touted in Japan for a while. His debut has been eagerly anticipated.

It's a risk. I love seeing guys challenge themselves but it's a fine line, bite off more than you can chew and it can go horribly wrong and shatter a young fighters confidence, get it right and all sorts of opportunities unfold.
