    Default The Best Fights

Boxing used to be about the best fighters facing each other,! now it's about the biggest pay day.
Yep boxing is a money business but we had great fights now it's rare fighters face each other in there prime.
We only have to look at Floyd v PAC so much hype and the fight turned out to be pretty boring.
We rarely get classic fights these days, the 80s gave us great match ups to bring back them days, boxing hay days😉

There has been a real paradigm shift and I hate being so negative. I just find it hard to ignore things like facts. I'm just not sure on the amount of empirical data needed. More disturbing for me is the buying of it. Enablers. How can this talent today at 147 be so F'ing dormant? I've never seen anything even remotely close as the Alvarez saga. And what was it 5 years for Manny/Floyd? This Haye thing. FFS did they pass out togas?

I agree with this. I think my favourite Wladimir Klitschko deserves a lot of credit for the way he handled his title reign(this is obviously just fan mail for wladimir btw :S).. He unlike a lot of fellows did make a very big effort to unify the belts and take on all comers, even offering a 50/50 split to haye and ibragimov.. Maybe wladimir was lucky to be in the era he was and is/was exceptionally boring to watch but he did make a lot of effort to make the big fights happen ! well done wladimir!

I think every 4-6 years boxing has a stellar year.
A shame it takes so long.

2007 for me was a kick ass year. Yeah almost a decade ago. I am sure there has been a great year or two since.

HBO did a look back at 2007 great stuff.

It's totally natural and hindsight to make many of the classics we know. For me to say boxing is exact same for better or worse today as in 86' is to say I watch, enjoy or perceive the same. More time-less time, life happens and again the constant comparisons we make about big name days gone by. It's actually a good thing. Just enjoy a good fight regardless of status

That's because wlad had no one to duck. They were all terrible opponents. Mayweather would have never ducked anybody either if his best opponent was somebody on the level of baldomir.

We got a lot of very good matches in the 80s, but I also remember everyone moaning that the champions were not fighting each other and we were missing out on so many matches. And that boxing was not like it was in the 70s....

Don't get me wrong there have been some very good matches in ever era.
The 80s were the best I was in my twenty's probably the best time of my life, the fighters were brilliant, the match's boxing was on fire.
I could make a list of fighters and match ups it would be a long one.

"I was in my 20's, it was the best time of my life." That's why everyone says it was better in my day. I've been hearing fossils say that for 40 years.

It's more a case of we change and evolve. Boxing still has fantastic fighters, matches and events. If you substituted fighters from previous eras into this one nothing would be different.

I think you'll find you're the miserable funker

I still think boxing is terrific. It's not long ago it was rare to get big American fights on TV let alone from around the world. The access to see fights these days is fantastic.

Lets bring back the Teletext days.

Yes, it's all about the money and that seems to be it.

Isn't Jake Paul the highest paid American boxer in the States?

Tommy Fury, yes, Tommy Fury is the 3rd highest paid British boxer in the UK; he has never fought anyone that can hit him back and he is area level at best.

This just about sums up boxing today.
