Default Stefon McCray wins Ringside World Championship

Baltimore Boxing’s Stefon “Showtime” McCray captured the Ringside World Championship in the 201 pound division July 30 in Independence, MO.

A former basketball star at Stevenson University, McCray has less been boxing for less than three years. The 23-year-old McCray entered the tournament coming off a setback June 16 and was determined to defeat whoever was in his way; and he did exactly that.

The rangy 6’6 McCray put his name in the history books with a unanimous decision over Logan Johnson but says he’s just getting started with his in-ring success.

“I’m feeling proud of my team and myself,” said McCray. “I’ve been pushing myself really hard mentally and physically between the gym and watching film. Now it has all paid off because I’ve won the Ringside Tournament but my journey is just beginning!”

Baltimore Boxing Club Owner & Head Trainer Jake Smith, who has worked with McCray since he first entered the gym, is extremely proud of his success.

“Stefon was a great athlete from day one but turning an athlete into a boxer takes a lot of work,” said
Smith, a former pro boxer himself. “I’ve seen a lot of guys come into the gym thinking because they were good in another sport that they’ll naturally excel in the ring. They were all in for rude awakenings. Stefon was the exact opposite and learned as much as possible. Of course there were some tough days in training but rather than walk away from the sport,he worked his ass off every day and continued to get better. I’m overjoyed to have him in my gym because he’s a champion in and out of the ring.”

McCray will have no time to celebrate as he’s scheduled to fight August 4 as part of Baltimore Boxing’s “Rumble Young Man Rumble” card at Michael’s Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie, MD.

Tickets for McCray’s fight are available at Baltimoreboxing.com.
