I started this thhread alm,ost 1 month ago to wait for @TitoFan to return and tell us he is OK. I hope it does not descend into partisan political jack-o-lantering during this pre-Halloween season. Let's keep すぐに戻ってきます focused on Tito and his countrymen.

Hello my dear friends. Just checking in to say I'm alive and well. All of my family is also, thank God.

I've missed the forum and all you guys so much. Yes, even you Miles.

Thanks for all your messages and support. I can't be online long, as I'm connected at my wife's place of work, and there's been intermittent Internet problems all over the place.

Just wanted you all to know I'm ok. It's been the most catastrophic disaster to ever hit the island. I was pretty scared at the peak of it all. The experience of living in a tropical island and getting slammed by a Cat 5 hurricane head-on is not something I wish to experience again any time soon.

I'll be back again when I can write more. I feel there's so many things to catch up on. You can't imagine how great it felt reading the tussles between Lyle and Kirk, Beanz and Brock..... and all the other stuff I've missed so much.

These things certainly put a lot of things in perspective.

As for my own status... my house escaped unscathed. I thought for sure the terrace roof would blow off, but it survived. My mother's house suffered some damage, but she was staying with us at the time. We're without power, and were without water for a few days. We're also without cell phone service, and for the first couple of weeks getting gasoline was a task requiring waiting in 10-12 hour lines. Thankfully it's gotten better.

The mountainous part of the island was the worst hit, and some areas are still incommunicated. I'm afraid the final death toll may yet reach the hundreds.

Hey guys... I love you all, as I feel we're all part of a family..... arguments and all.

Take care, and talk to you again soon.

It's been a month since Hurricane Maria, and things here are still pretty out of the norm. I'm afraid this is going to take a while. Still haven't got power, but was able to get a hold of a nice emergency generator in the meantime. No reliable cell phone service yet, although it's coming back slowly. I still have to go to my wife's office to a pretty good-sized training room which is the only place I can connect to the Internet.

My days are pretty filled between looking after my mother, going shopping for supplies, now getting gas for the generator, and other assorted things. It's a pain in the neck... but there's people a lot worse off in the island.

It's hard to describe the devastation left behind by Maria, but I imagine the news coverage was pretty thorough. To make matters worse, we had a tropical wave come through the island on Sunday, which caused widespread flooding to already sensitive areas.

Not gonna be able to stay here long.... but one thing I wanted to get off my chest is the feeling I've gotten reading all the worrying and well-wishes from you guys. We always like to say this forum is like a family... but one never really gets it until something like this happens. We argue a lot, but so what? What family members never argue, other than the Brady Bunch? I've honestly gotten a knot in my throat from the posts I've read. Sorry for getting all sappy. But that's what happens when you've had a life-altering experience like all of us have had here on the island. Life here won't be the same for a long, long time.... if ever. Some have chosen to migrate elsewhere, and I can't say I blame them. Many have lost their jobs, especially in the hotel and tourism industry.

Hopefully I'll get back to posting about boxing at some point... and also more often. For now though, it's probably gonna be piecemeal for me.

    You guys take care,

    Rey

]When you say that the island will never be the same ever or maybe even never that sends chills up and down the spines of the people including myself when we try to imagine that devastation. Yes the news coverage was more than thorough. You do what you have to do at least your wife's office building has some kind of signal to the outside world. I'm wondering how the ATMs are functioning without any electrical current. What about the airports? Are there flights in and out yet? For example if you wanted to take a flight to Florida would that be a big deal would that be something that is impossible to orchestrate? If the airports are functioning are there even any people that can get the cash together after the ATMs of the banks might be shut down to actually pay for tickets to fly out of there in an easy matter? Or perhaps are there delays going for weeks and weeks to try to get on flights heading out?
