Not surprised that he won’t be back in the ring for a while. Unfortunate because he will probably be out for a year then have to take a tune up. So he probably won’t have a big fight until at least mid 2019.

Was it really worth it for Valdez? Very damaging.

No, you’re right, it wasn’t worth it. He should’ve either pulled out and been out of pocket or as soon as it got tough, he should’ve given up!

How about not going ahead with the fight or insisting Quigg weigh far less than he did. Dangerous sport to mess about with.

Finally watched full fight. Great dust up by two guys who wear it all on the sleeve. Early bodywork by Valdez very impressive and despite Quiggs extra weight he looked to be outgunned for large part. He did have Valdez wobbled though. Valdez still not using his jab as much as he should and I don't think he'll steer away from these types of wars in the future. Would love to see Valdez and Selby go at it and favor Valdez there.

He can’t afford Not going ahead, and insisting on Quigg weighing less would’ve probably resulted in the same.
At the moment , these guys are thinking of how they’re gonna survive financially. It’s easy with hindsight, he never knew he was gonna get his jaw smashed up, did he?

No he did not but that is something that his advisors and him should have taken into consideration.

No guarantees that he wouldn't have got his jaw smashed if Quigg did weigh less, that can happen in any fight in all fairness.

Yes it is and if he had a choice now I bet he would have not gone ahead with the contest.

    Yep.
Valdez’s advisers - “careful you don’t break your jaw.”
Valdez - “uh, yeah, thanks for the advice.”

Valdez’s advisers - “If you break your jaw and can not fight for 8 months do not come crying to us.”
Valdez - “Um .... maybe I should not be taking this fight against an opponent who has not bothered to make weight"

I was talking about having alternates lined up on the undercard in another thread. Maybe if Valdez knew he could still fight a fairly respectable opponent who had been training for a fight at the same weight and night his team would have told Quigg to go f-ck himself. I'm glad Quigg lost. The sport needs to take a stance on fighters who blow weight.

Fixed that for you as to what would REALLY happen.
