    Default The Last Great Fight

Just started to read the Last Great Fight which is a book about Tyson v Douglas. The Extraordinary Tale of Two Men and How One Fight Changed Their Lives Forever.

I am not as quick as Batman with his books so will take me months to complete.

    Anyone read it?

Spoiler Alert! I haven't read it , but I'm pretty certain Tyson loses!

Buster’s brother died in his 20’s when he was playing with a gun and accidentally shot himself.

Buster was trained by his dad who was a decent boxer himself. He did fall out with him a number of times and was not trained by his dad for his fight with Tyson but spoke to him on the phone regularly from Japan.

Tyson did not want to train hard and told his trainers not to wake him up for the morning runs in Japan. He was having sex with prostitutes.

During one morning run Tyson’s team (without Tyson) saw Douglas running but could not keep up with him as he deliberately sprinted to lose them to show he was in great condition coming into the fight.

It is well known that Tyson was knocked down by Gregg Page in sparring in Tokyo but it is not so well known that Tyson had been knocked down by sparring partners in other fights he was preparing for such as by Oliver McCall with a body shot and also Mike Hunter.

Tyson was made to rewrap his glove in his dressing room which angered him.

Tyson’s corner used a latex glove filled with water to bring the swelling down from Tyson’s eye as the person in charge of cuts had forgot the endswell. A condom was not used.

Douglas was instructed that if he was fouled he should foul straight back which he did and it stopped Tyson from fouling too much.

Buster did a lot of adverts when he won included WWF referee.

He weighed 300lb when he started camp for Holyfield and was just too big. He wanted to cancel the fight to give him more time to train but decided against it as there were too many people dependent on the fight going ahead.

Buster nearly died from over eating, had a heart attack and went into a diabetic coma.

Buster started exercising just to stay alive and get healthy. During his comeback he was offered a rematch with Tyson where he would get $1 million and Tyson $10 million which he turned down as an insult.

Douglas was soon knocked out in round 1 by Lou Savarese.

The author Joe Layden wrote the whole book with an hour telephone conversation with Tyson but it is very well written.

I was never sold on Tyson anytime in his career. He had a punch of a Champion but not the heart.
