    Default Jared Anderson?

He needs a Derrick James to take him to the next level.

He may be young but needs adjustment.

Fortunately he is fighting in an era where no one fights anyone.

Stick him in with Chisora the Fury might fight him.

Being honest I'm between very solid believer and well now I have no idea on his direction. And it's not based on the fight itself with Martin. He clearly showed he has some holes down the middle and repeated bad habits pulling straight back high. But I think some of the immediate backlash has gone off the rails. 1 fight and 2,3,4 stumbles off heavy shots does not define a career and render a 15-0 fighter as "hype job" write off. Some fans today have a microwave short attention span mindset trying to finish the story when you're only in the early chapters. Flip thru any random top heavy over last couple decades and you will find a 'tough' fight and opponent that sprung up in development...that's the entire point! I'd rather see an acid test with a few burns taken this early than a guy who incorporates his flaws into style because they were never addressed or admitted to.

But the biggest problem and concern for me as a fan is the talk of retirement in 3 years. That is a stop and side-eye moment, honestly cannot wrap my head around it at all. Looking to have a goal is good, an idea and plan...but boxing doesn't work like that. Things get turned upside down and the next thing you know you've lost six months to injury etc. Setting time constraints and definitely not for a 23-year-old who is at the spear tip of a 'new generation' coming in hot. The division is in shift and putting a deadline on natural progression and development is setting snare traps for yourself. You just have to be all in on a long-term drive. Hopefully it was just that..talk. But it's not something a young learning fighter with big potential needs to be repeating. It'll be interesting going forward.

He is a chin up bully, he will get chinned very soon as opposition improves. He has some moves and speed but that's about it.

This fight is better for Anderson than all his previous pro fights
    It highlighted his faults
    He went the distance
    Got his chin checked
& won clearly on the cards
Hope he's back in the gym working on correcting

I had predicted an upset by Martin, but Jared proved me wrong. Good test for him. Now that he's passed it, I can see him doing great things in the division.

Good thing for Anderson is that he's only 23, he'd surely struggle against the top guys right now but he's pretty young and could probably correct a few things, he held up well energy wise over ten rounds v big guy who was fighting back, took a few whacks and won, obviously he needs to improve but he has time. Fury got knocked over by a few lesser guys in his young days too and he really improved a lot as he got older, there's hope for this big baby yet.

It's not a bad thing that the hype machine has slowed down a touch since the weekend , it'll do him good. lots of Potential , but a long way to go yet.

4 possibly 5 fights within a twelve month span. Have to respect that and need more of it. Few if any top heavies right now are that active.

I want to see him in with that Russian guy, Arslanbek Makhmudov, that would be a good test for him and maybe I would be a believer.

American HW boxing dies with Wilder

Straps war will soon begin with most of the big names nearing retirement. Anderson might win a title because to me they are kinda babying him to a title shot. Not a chance of him in with a Frank Sanchez or Bakole. And if he does win a title I seem him as a Micheal Grant type. Big, athletic, looks part but not as good as he looks or ppl think.

I got curious when I read the first sentence, so I went to the BoxRec rankings.

    Let's see...

So there's Jared at #13, Jarrell "Mr. PED" Miller at #21, and a few no-name old dudes further down the list.

Yep... American HW boxing dies with Wilder.

This is sadder than it sounds, and I'll repeat why.

For better or for worse, the USA is still the global mecca of boxing. Fighters yearn to fight in Vegas or Madison Square Garden. Granted, other countries have made giant strides. But the USA is still the mecca.

And without a viable American heavyweight, American public interest wanes. Of the non-Americans, let's say (IMHO) that Anthony Joshua has more viewer appeal than Tyson Fury. But that's only my perception. Besides... Tyson Fury has one foot out of boxing already.

For the casuals, the heavyweights are the only division in boxing. Sad, but true. A fighter like Crawford has done his best to fill that gap in USA boxing. But he's not a heavyweight, so he's got that going against him.

I wish Jared was the real deal, but yeah... Sanchez or Bakole would rip him a new one. BTW... I noticed Sanchez is ranked #18 in BoxRec. That's a gross underestimation.

Guys like Zhang and Joyce would destroy Jared at this point.

We'll just have to see. Jared's gonna have to learn some defense if he's going to go anywhere.

If american heavyweight boxing dies with Wilder then I suspect it wasn't really alive before that......

    It wasn't.

Long gone were the days of Ali, Frazier, Foreman, even Iron Mike.
