Anthony Joshua has been left without an opponent next Saturday as his fight with Dillian Whyte was cancelled.

Whyte returned 'adverse analytical findings' in a VADA test, promoter Eddie Hearn announced on Saturday, a week before fight was due to take place.

It is currently unclear whether Joshua will seek another opponent or wait for a proposed showdown with Deontay Wilder in January.

One potential option, however, is heavyweight contender Filip Hrgovic.

The Croatian was due to face Demsey McKean on the undercard of Joshua vs Whyte.

Another heavyweight meant to be competing on the undercard is veteran Derek Chisora, who grew up attending the same gym as Joshua.

Having won just one of his last five fights, including a resounding loss to Tyson Fury in December, 'Del Boy' was due to face Gerald Washington at The O2 next Saturday.

Whyte has now taken to social media where he stressed he is a clean fighter in a statement released on Instagram.

The 35-year-old said: "I am shocked and devastated to learn of a report by VADA of adverse findings relating to me.

"I only learned of it this morning and am still reacting to it.

"I have also just seen that the fight is being cancelled without having any chance to demonstrate my innocence before the decision was taken.

"I can confirm without a shadow of doubt that I have not taken the reported substance, in this camp or at any point in my life.

"I am completely innocent and ask to be given the time to go through the process of proving this without anybody jumping to conclusions or by trial by media.

"I insisted on 24/7 VADA testing for this fight, as I have done voluntarily and at my own expense for all of my fights for many, many years.

"In the meantime, all I can do is express my extreme disappointment to boxing fans, who will miss out on what was sure to be a great event."

Whyte previously tested positive for banned stimulant methylhexaneamine in a UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) test in 2012 when he was a 9-0 prospect.

It led to him being given a two-year ban, before rebuilding his career in 2014 where he rose up the ranks - leading him to face Joshua in 2015 for the British title.

Whyte served a two-year drugs ban from 2012 to 2014 and was cleared of a doping violation in 2019 after UK Anti-Doping concluded the levels in his sample were “very low” and he was ultimately not to blame.

From a boxing point of view , I feel for Joshua. No doubt they could give him a good contest. You’ve got Hrgovic, McKean, Washington, Ruiz. At short notice they’re some pretty good options.
But it’s difficult when he’s been focussing on Whyte despite the fact that some of these are probably better Whyte.
Whoever he fights is gonna be way more motivated . Remember when he fought Takam at late notice?
As for Whyte, if he don’t get a life ban after getting caught for the THIRD TIME, they might as well stop drug testing!
He can’t use the “unintentional” Shtick. If you’ve been done twice before , you should be super cautious I’m afraid.

I've not been following closely. Is this thing off or is a substitute going to be brought in.

He won't pick Hrgovic, too dangerous. He may go for McKean or Washington because they are easier to beat. I don't even think AJ wants to chance a 3rd fight with Ruiz... lolol...
