Once-beaten Alfredo Angulo participated in a media workout on Monday at Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, N.Y., answering questions from New York-area media.
Angulo (16-1, 13 KOs, of Mexicali, Mexico), world-rated No. 4 by the WBO and No. 5 by the WBC and WBA, takes on the tough, unbeaten Harry Joe Yorgey (22-0-1, 10 KOs, of Bridgeport, Pa.), world rated No. 4 WBC, No. 5 WBO, in a 12-round fight for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental junior middleweight title. Light middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo got back in the saddle last night with a second round TKO against outgunned opponent Gabriel Rosado last night at Buffalo Bill's Star Arena in Primm, Nevada.
The meteoric rise of Angulo, 16-1 (13), had been blunted in May by two-time former welterweight world champion Kermit Cintron during a WBC light middle eliminator but the 26 year old Mexican banger was in fine form against Rosado.
Hailing from Philadelphia, Rosado, 12-4 (7), came into the bout on the strength of a shock split decision verdict over former IBF light middle beltholder Kassim Ouma in April but the 23 year old was no match for Angulo, hitting the deck three times before the bout was waved off in the second.
Undefeated super middle Anthony Dirrell, 18-0 (15), stopped Alfredo Contreras, 10-6-1 (4), in the seventh while heavyweight prospect Travis Kauffman, 18-0 (15), belted out overmatched William Shanahan, 7-2 (6), in the first round.

Last night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, FL, Andre Berto retained his WBC welterweight title with a superb points win against challenger Juan Urango.
Urango, the current IBF light welter titlist, employed his trademark pressure approach from the start but had difficulty in finding the target as Berto didn't stick around to be hit.
The champion employed good footwork and showed his cat-quick reflexes in avoiding the tear up that Urango wanted, giving the Colombian challenger a crisp boxing lesson instead.
Berto showed his class in zipping in stinging single shots and sharp counters, mostly upstairs, and controlled the pace enroute to a well deserved 118-110 twice and 117-111 points victory. More...

In a war of wills and attrition, after being hurt considerably by a left hook in round five, Alfredo “Perro” Angulo weathered the storm and came back to stop Richard Gutierrez at 2:48 of the very same round to capture the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Light Middleweight Title. The bout was the second televised event of an excellent fight card put together by Gary Shaw Productions and HBO in Primm, NV on Saturday night.
The two exceptionally tough light middleweights wasted no time in the opening round, standing toe to toe and digging hard shots up and down on each other’s head and torso. Colombia’s Gutierrez showed a better defense early on, landing the more telling blows to seemingly take an action packed round one that left the crowd cheering.
Gutierrez also showed surprising strength early on, backing Angulo into the ropes from time to time. Angulo, who fought in the Olympics for Mexico, was calm and collected in only his 13th professional fight 13-0 (10) against his toughest and most experienced opponent to date in Gutierrez 24-2 (14). The 29 year old Gutierrez had taken world class fighter, Joshua Clottey to the limit almost two years ago in a close majority decision loss.
Angulo made some adjustments, being a bit more elusive, switching to a southpaw stance, and attacking the body ferociously, producing some wild exchanges in the second and third rounds. The hard punching Angulo noticeably hurt Gutierrez towards the end of round three, forcing Gutierrez to box more off the back foot for a while.
The fourth round was clearly Angulo’s best as he started to take the fight over, winning most of the wild exchanges and showing some movement and underrated boxing skills, developed by sparring the past couple years with some of the best opponents that the Southern California gym scene has to offer.
