Boxing Result: Huck Defeats Ramirez To Win WBO Belt In Germany

By Hermann Helmut August 30th, 2009 All Boxing Results

Tonight at Gerry Weber Stadium in Halle, one of the biggest names on the German scene saw his popularity go through the roof as Marco Huck toppled WBO cruiserweight titlist Victor Emilio Ramirez.

European champ Huck came out all guns blazing and put the normally aggressive Argentine in the unexpected position of having to go defensive to weather the storm.

But Ramirez did just that and turned the tide starting with the third frame, nailing the overly enthusiastic Huck with some big shots.

Huck made an adjustment however and began to box smarter, throwing combinations that allowed him to regain his earlier momentum.

Ramirez stuck to the game plan of trying to level Huck with every punch but by now Huck could see them coming and picked off the champion to win most of the exchanges. More...

Boxing Preview: Victor Emilio Ramirez vs. Marco Huck

By Hermann Helmut August 29th, 2009 All Boxing Previews

At Gerry Weber Stadium in Halle, Germany tonight, popular cruiserweight Marco Huck gets another crack at a world title as he challenges reigning WBO champ Victor Emilio Ramirez.

25 year old Ramirez, 15-1 (12), earned his nickname "El Tyson del Abasto" while coming up through the ranks in his native Argentina but the Buenos Aires slugger didn't hit the big time until his most recent bout.

Ramirez posted a split decision over hardened Ukrainian Ali Ismailov at Buenos Aires' famed Luna Park Stadium in May to annex the WBO cruiserweight title.

For his first defense, Ramirez has to face Huck, 25-1 (20), in the European champ's adopted home country, which should be a stern trial by fire. More...

Boxing Perspective: Is Wladimir Klitschko Too Good For His Own Good?

By Daxx Kahn December 23rd, 2008 All Boxing Articles

At 32 years of age, Wladimir Klitschko has gone through almost every stage a fighter can as a professional. At one time, he was known in almost an Ivan Drago-like manner, a huge European with massive power but robotic movement.

After his loss to Corrie Sanders in 2003 and another at the hands of Lamon Brewster in 2004, both by KO, the label of of over-rated was attached, one that seemed like it could be there forever.

In 2005, Wlad yet again forced a reclassification of his status after beating undefeated Eliseo Castillo and Sam Peter and this time the label was the best heavyweight in the world.

In 2006, after winning another world title from Chris Byrd, knocking out highly regarded Calvin Brock, dismantling Ray Austin with one hand, winning the rematch with Brewster by KO then taking Sultan Ibragimov’s WBO strap in 2008, the doubts were certainly removed on exactly who ruled the roost of heavyweight boxing.

Why is it then after everything he's accomplished and overcome along with two title defenses in 2008 that Wladimir Klitschko is criticized? What more can the man do to leave his detractors behind? It is almost as if onlookers just beg for reasons to minimize his ability.

After establishing his status on top of the division he is now labeled “too cautious”. Of all things he is too cautious? Is there really nothing better to pick at? After all the questions have been asked about Wladimir, such as his ability and fortitude, I have to ask a question of my own. More...

Boxing In America: Weekend Results

By Richard Eberline August 31st, 2008 All Boxing Results

After taking almost the entire month of August off, the sport of boxing got back into full swing this weekend and there some decent shows to report upon.

Former WBO Heavyweight Champion Lamon Brewster returned to the ring for the first time in more than a year as the 35 year old slugger knocked out New York based veteran Danny Batchedler in the fifth round at The Gardens in Cincinnati, OH last night to take the NABA title.

Brewster, 34-4 (30), proved just too big and quick for Batchelder and wins for the first time in three years after dropping consecutive losses to Serguei Lyakhovich and Wladimir Klitschko in world title bouts.

31 year old Batchelder, who has come up in weight during his career from super middle, drops to 25-6-1 (12), losing his third bout in a row.

Also on Saturday, middleweight Anthony Greenidge, 12-1-1 (5), won a hard fought eight rounder over Louis Turner by majority decision at the Holiday Inn Select in Atlanta, GA.

Lightweight Tyrese Hendrix, 14-0-1 (6), posted a six round unanimous decision over veteran Luis Bolano, 41-11 (31), on the undercard.

There was action on Friday as well, with former welterweight contender Antonio Diaz, 44-5-1 (29), continuing his comeback with an eighth round points win against Juan Pablo Montes de Oca, 9-15-2, at Omega Products International in Corona, CA. More...
