Despite sitting on the sidelines the last 21 months, Floyd Mayweather Jr returned in top form tonight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to reestablish his authority as the finest boxer of his generation and in the world today.

Much had been made of Marquez's two highly contentious contests against arch-rival Manny Pacquiao during the media buildup leading up to tonight's clash but the masterful Mayweather aptly showed that meant nothing when stacked up against his prodigious gifts. More...

In the first round, Valero established his control over the bout's pace, using a busy offense to force Pitalua onto the defensive and using good footwork to avoid trouble when Pitalua did thow anything.

Boxing In Asia: Weekend Results

By Danny Wilson February 1st, 2009 All Boxing Results

At the Cebu Coliseum, there were four title fights, all for WBO regional belts, with three of the contests ending in stoppages, providing a fireworks display for the packed audience.

Hard-nosed former WBO Interim Lightweight Champion Michael Katsidis bounced back from competitive losses to two of the best in the world at 135 pounds, Juan Diaz and Joel Casamayor, to grind out a big win over granite-jawed Argentine veteran Angel Hugo Ramirez over ten rounds to capture the vacant WBA Asia Pacific belt.

Katsidis aggressively went after Ramirez, flooring him in the second, third and fourth frames but the Aussie couldn't put Ramirez away, losing a point in the second round for hitting the opponent after he was down.

Boxing Result: Juan Diaz Defeats Michael Katsidis By Split Decision In Houston

By Richard Eberline September 7th, 2008 All Boxing Results

In a hotly anticipated showdown between hard-nosed come-forward sluggers, lightweights Juan Diaz and Michael Katsidis went to war last night at the Toyota Center in Houston, TX, and after the dust settled Diaz had pulled out a split decision victory to capture the vacant IBO title.

For the first half of the bout, Diaz engaged in target practice, nailing his tough Aussie opponent with a two handed avalanche that had Katsidis swollen and cut around both eyes.

But the huge-hearted Katsidis refused to give up and as Diaz began to tire from his sheer effort, Michael "The Great" went to work and outlanded the local man over most of the second half of the bout.

Diaz absorbed what Katsidis had to dish out and returned fire just enough to carry two of the three scorecards 116-112 and 115-113 while Katsidis took the third 115-113.

Winning by split decision, former unified world champion Diaz improves to 34-1 (17) while ex-WBO Interim titlist Katsidis drops his second in a row to fall to 23-2 (20).

On the undercard, former WBO Super Feather Champ Jorge Barrios and three-time world title challenger Rocky Juarez also engaged in a thrilling two-way contest.

Juarez was characteristically patient with his efforts, focusing on the body and tight combinations while Barrios proved to be the more active man, outboxing the Texan until caught by a hard right from Juarez in the eleventh frame. More...
