Friday night at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan, England Frank Maloney promoted a fight night which was headlined by the clash between Jamie Moore and Michele Piccirillo, as they fought for the vacant European Light Middleweight title. Salford man Moore won the title on a third round TKO over Italian Piccirillo.

But there was some great undercard action which also saw the second fight from Irish Bronze Olympic Medallist Darren Sutherland as he took on Belarusian Siarhei Navarka in a six round super middleweight contest.

In the opening half of the round, Sutherland lands a number of head punches which sees Navarkaʼs face already reddened from the blows. Keeping up the pace, ʽDazʼ whips out the left and straight rights and though Navarka keeps his gloves up and head down, Sutherlands punches get through.

Round two and Sutherland stays busy, continuing to use the jab which rocks back the head of the Belarusian with some regularity now. More...

Friday night at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan, England Frank Maloney promoted a fight night headlined by the clash between Jamie Moore of Salford, Manchester, and Italian Michele Piccirillo, as they slugged it out for the vacant European Light Middleweight title.

Southpaw ‘Mooresy’ whips out the left straight away while a more cautious Piccirillo susses him out. Mid-way through the frame, Moore catches Piccirillo with a double left to the face and the Italian's head rocks back from the blows.

Moore sticks in a sweet left hook to the body and the Italian ‘feels it’. A straight right lands to the chin of Piccirillo in the last half-minute and the Italian looks fazed and unsettled. More...

Tonight, Jamie Moore could realize the potential he first saw come to fruition with a British and Commonwealth title win in 2003 as he contends for the European title.

Moore, 30-3 (21), meets Italy's former IBF Welterweight Champion Michele Piccirillo, 50-4 (21), for the vacant European Light Middleweight title on a Frank maloney promotion at Robin Park Arena in Wigan, England.

For Moore, it's been an excruciating wait for a chance to win the Continental crown as the Salford southpaw has seen scheduled clashes for the belt go down in flames through a kaleidoscope of injury, business politics and just plain bad luck.

The 30 year old Manchester area hero first shot to prominence in 2003 when he put the first loss on towering Liverpool man Michael Jones' record, winning Jones' Commonwealth title along with the British belt in a masterful display of educated pressure and sheer toughness.

Title defense stoppages of Gary Logan, Andrew Facey and Adam Katumwa followed suit and by June of 2004, Moore looked to be an unstoppable express bearing down on the European title and the world rankings. More...

Ruslan Chagaev´s postponed defense of the WBA Heavyweight Title against Nikolai Valuev will according to German news agency DPA take place on July 5. The site has not determined.
