Today at the Gateway Hotel in Nottingham, England, promoter Frank Maloney hosted a press conference ahead of Friday's fight night at the Harvey Hadden Leisure Centre, in which Leicester binman Rendall Munroe will defend his European super bantamweight title for the fifth time.
Munroe's opponent, former European bantamweight champion and WBC title challenger Simone ‘Boom Boom’ Maludrottu of Italy arrived in England yesterday and sat at today's press conference alongside his trainer.
Unable to speak English, Maludrottu answered questions via an interpreter, who sat between Maludrottu and his trainer.
A confident Munroe sat alongside his team of Jason and Mike Shinfield. Munroe's good friend and British super bantam champion Jason Booth was on hand to offer support as were Munroe's stablemates, light heavyweight Ovill McKenzie and light welter Scott Haywood, who also fight on Friday's bill. Yesterday, at Real Hypermarkert in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, Media gathered for the official press conference between Wladimir Klitschko and Ruslan Chagaev ahead of their clash at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday for the IBF, IBO, and WBO Heavyweight titles.
The press area was a cordoned off section of the Real retail store and - being open on one side - the conference was watched by Klitschko fans waiting to catch a glimpse of their idol. They weren’t disappointed!
Klitschko - aka ‘Dr. Steelhammer’ - entered the area to a mass of photographers as he settled into his seat on the raised platform. Wearing a bright red tracksuit (as did his entourage), Klitschko looked ‘radiant’ (an odd word for a male - I know!) and proudly sat with his three belts on display in front of him.
The challenger, Chagaev, entered wearing a dark suit. He seemed a quiet, shy man but he too sat with his WBA belt in front. More...

K2 Promotions made the last stop of their press tour at BB Kings Blues Club in New York City yesterday to announce the upcoming title bout between IBF, IBO and WBO Heavyweight Champion Dr. Wladimir “Steelhammer” Klitschko 52-3 (46) against David “The Hayemaker” Haye 22-1 (21), set for June 20th at Veltins-Arena Stadium in Schalke, Germany.
The trash-talking Haye was not at a loss for words or t-shirts as he spoke to the media sporting a black t-shirt which had an image of Haye holding the decapitated heads of both Wladimir and his brother WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko over their lifeless bloody bodies.
During the press conference Haye later changed into a makeshift I Love NY t-shirt that he had modified. “I had to change my t-shirt this time around”, said Haye “here you go, I love KLIT.” More...

On Saturday, November 8, 2008, two of boxing’s best will step into the ring at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the “Mecca of Boxing”, in an HBO PPV event dubbed “Battle of the Superpowers”.

In addition to the 24/7 coverage that has been running on HBO, the fighters had a busy week with a media workout on Monday and a final press conference at BB King’s Blues Club in New York City yesterday, where many of the attendees were still buzzing over the victory of President-elect Barack Obama.
Jones’ trainer Alton Merkerson said, “I would like to say that I think everyone is pleased that the campaign for the Commander in Chief is over. It was a long campaign. It is time to try to bring this nation back to where it is supposed to be. More...

It was a story of youth vs. experience last night at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas, NV and this time, youth won out as Chad Dawson proved to have too much in the arsenal for veteran Antonio Tarver to handle over the course of twelve rounds.
Dawson had voluntarily given up the WBC title he won over Tomasz Adamek last year after three defenses in order to finally face IBF/IBO Champion Tarver, after the two had exchanged verbal shots through the press for a few years.
That decision paid dividends as soon as the bell rang to begin the first round with 26 year old Dawson holding a clear advantage in reflexes and quickness, zipping Tarver with quick combinations and moving off before his 39 year old opponent could land anything of substance.
That scenario was generally the one that played out over the course of the twelve round bout as Dawson didn't have a lot of trouble hitting Tarver but the veteran used good defensive skills to pick off a lot of follow-up punches with his gloves and arms after getting hit with the first shot or two of a combination. After nearly four years out of the ring, Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko challenges "The Nigerian Nightmare", Samuel Peter, for his old WBC Heavyweight Championship at the 02 World Arena in Berlin tonight.
Much has happened since Klitschko's last fight. Brother Wladimir has established himself as top dog in the weight class, unifying half the division and Vitali's opponent this Saturday night is looking to establish his legacy in the division also.
Peter is no stranger to the Klitschko's; back in 2005 in an IBF eliminator, the Nigerian knocked down Wladimir three times before dropping a close but unanimous decision over 12 rounds.
Strong, powerful and durable, Peter dusted himself off and proceeded to score two victories over the crafty veteran James Toney before winning the Interim WBC title with a points victory over Jameel McCline, climbing off the canvas three times to do so, in October 2007. He then won the title proper with a sixth round stoppage over Russian Oleg Maskaev in March this year.
Vitali, the older of the two Klitschkos, represents Peter's toughest test since the last defeat of the "Nigerian Nightmare". Although the challenger has spent four years out of the ring, he is tough, durable and has tons of heart. The sixth round loss on cuts to Lennox Lewis in June 2003 proved that. In that fight, Vitali absorbed bombs that would have knocked out any other fighter.
His only three fights since then was a second round stoppage win over Kirk Johnson in December 2003 and two eight round stoppage wins over Corrie Sanders and Danny Williams in 2004 in WBC title bouts. More...
