In the Broadway Boxing main event held at Floyd Bennett Field's Aviator Arena last Saturday in Brooklyn, New York promoted by DiBella Entertainment, unbeaten light welterweight Gabriel 'Tito' Bracero of Brooklyn ran his record to 17-0 with a spectacular third round one punch knockout of southpaw Dani Van Staden, a South African fighting out of Key West, Florida.

A nonstop barrage of right hand jabs and hard power shots had Van Staden in big trouble from the opening bell. Van Staden went down in the second and the third rounds while trying to survive. A hard right cross by Bracero put Van Staden into dreamland, counted out for the night at 1:08 of the third.

A re-match is on, according to United States Senator John McCain and Representative Peter King, to secure a Congressional pardon for the first black heavyweight champion, Jack Johnson.

The first resolution was introduced in 2009 but President Barack Obama refused to pass the act that would pardon Johnson from his criminal conviction.

There is great significance here as Johnson became the first black heavyweight champion a century before Obama was elected the nation's first black president.

Johnson was convicted of violating the Mann Act, a law that made it illegal to transport women across state lines for the purposes of immoral acts. His flamboyant lifestyle, his world heavyweight title and his marriage to a white woman made Johnson the perfect target for a white population of the times, boiling with racial resentment.

In a written statement, Arizona Senator McCain said that he and New York Representative King, would be reintroducing the resolution to rectify this historical injustice.

McCain believes that only a full pardon would help future generations fully grasp what Johnson was able to accomplish in the face of bigotry and prejudice.

There was no comment issued by the White House.

Earlier today Michael Katsidis and his manager Brendon Smith issued a statement saying that an agreement had been reached with Graham Earl and that the long awaited rematch of their epic 2007 encounter will take place in Queensland, Australia later this year.

Their first encounter, for the WBO interim Lightweight title, took place before a packed house at Wembley Arena. The fight rightly earned the 2007 Fight of the Year honours as the fans were treated to a full on battle royale. For five action packed rounds the pair traded punches.
