Wayne Reed vows to end Robin Reid’s career

Sheffield fighter aiming to put Prizefighter pain behind him on Saturday

Wayne Reed faces former WBC World Champion Robin Reid at the Hillsborough Leisure Centre on Saturday – and says he’ll end the 40 year-olds career at the sell-out show live on Sky Sports.

Both men took part in the 17th edition of Prizefighter in Liverpool, and while Reid crashing out to Tobias Webb by unanimous decision was a surprise, it was the second quarter-final when Reed took on local favourite Joe Ainscough that caused the controversy. The three-round contest was tight until the final stages when Reed floored the Ainscough before the final bell, seemingly enough to claim a place in the semi-finals. More...

Barry Hearn / Matchroom Sport gave us another great Prizefighter tournament last night – this time it was the Super-Middleweights II at Liverpools’ Characterful Olympia.

It was the turn of Rocky Fielding to raise the Prizefighter Trophy and collect the £32,000 prize money. Fielding - who only turned pro last September – was drafted in just a week ago to take the place of Tony Quigley.

Scoring a second round TKO over Patrick Maxwell of Sheffield in the quarter-final, Fielding then faced fellow Liverpudlian - Joe Ainscough in the Semi’s who was stopped in the first round with a cut.

The atmosphere inside the Olympia was fantastic! The sounds of the ‘Rocky’ Theme rang out around the venue as were the chants of ‘Rocky, Rocky!’

The final saw Fielding up against Tobias Webb of Swansea, Wales (nephew of former World Cruiserweight Champion - Enzo Maccarinelli). But Webb was forced to retire after suffering two knockdowns in the first round.

Matchroom Boxing: Maccarinelli Backs Webb To Upset Reid

Enzo Maccarinelli says his nephew Tobias Webb can stun home favourite Robin Reid in Prizefighter Super Middleweights II at Liverpool Olympia on March 23 – and he’s putting his money where his mouth is.

Maccarinelli will be ringside on Wednesday night to support his 22 year-old unbeaten nephew Tobias as he steps into the ring against Reid in the third quarter-final of the night. Saturday night, at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton, England, Hatton Promotions hosted a fightnight which headlined two Title bouts.

First up, St.Helens Boxer Craig Lyon faced Josh Wale of Barnsley for the English Bantamweight Title.

Both men get off to a busy start in this scheduled ten rounder which looked like it might be a thrilling contest as both men slug-it-out from the off. Outlaw Wale lands a right followed by a swinging left to the head of the Champion in the first minute of the second frame.

Lyon touches down as he overbalances, but Referee John Keane does not count it. Lyon's right eye is starting to swell and it’s a close match-up between these two! More...

It was a beautiful sunny morning in Nottingham earlier this week as SaddoBoxing attended the press conference for the upcoming Carl Froch and Robin Reid clash ahead of this Friday's fightnight at the Ice Arena in Nottingham, England.

Hennessy Promotions hosted the event at the very smart Alea Casino in Nottingham.

The top-table consisted of British Super Middleweight Champion Carl Froch, his trainer Robert McKracken and promoter Mick Hennessy along with ex- WBC World Champion Robin Reid, WBU Welterweight Champion Michael Jennings (on behalf of Reid's trainer Brian Hughes) and a member of Team Reid.
