WBO super middle champ Robert Stieglitz defends against challenger Khoren Gevor this evening at Bordelandhalle in Magdeburg, Germany.

Stieglitz, 39-2 (23), has won eight straight appearances since losing an IBF title eliminator to Librado Andrade in 2008, but this could be the Russian's hardest defense yet as the 29 year old has thus far retained on three occasions against opponents Enrique Ornelas, Eduard Gutknecht and Ruben Eduardo Acosta since winning the belt against Karoly Balszay in August, 2009.

Gevor, 31-5 (16), will be making his fourth run at world honors after getting stopped by IBF middleweight king Arthur Abraham in 2007, nearly dethroning WBA middleweight champ Felix Sturm in 2009 and most recently suffering a points loss to WBA super middle boss Dimitri Sartison in last July. WBA super middle titlist Dimitri Sartison, 27-1 (17), made his first defense a good one, handling the challenge of two-time ex-middleweight title challenger Khoren Gevor, 31-5 (16).

Southpaw Gevor came forward the entire fight but was picked off repeatedly by the bigger Sartison until the challenger managed to finally close distance in the final frames and batter Sartison around the ring.

But it wasn't enough as Sartison won a 117-109, 117-110 and 115-112 unanimous decision. More...

Tonight at 02 World Arena in Hamburg, WBA super middle king Dimitri Sartison puts his WBA super middle title on the line for the first time, facing experienced challenger Khoren Gevor.

The Kazakhstan born titlist, 26-1 (17), won the vacant belt last November with a sixth round stoppage of little known Stjepan Bozic, three bouts removed from a KO loss to WBA Champion Mikkel Kessler in which Sartison was gunned down in the 12th round.

Southpaw Gevor, 31-4 (16), will be making his first appearance as a super middle following two failed world title bids at middleweight, losing a close decision to WBA boss Felix Sturm last year and a KO loss to IBF ruler Arthur Abraham in 2007.

Former European champion Gevor has faced the better competition over the course of his career, which was as a light middle for the initial two years, but that won't mean anything if he can't hurt the bigger Sartison, who has operated as a super middle his entire career. More...
