On Friday night, Manchester’s Terry Flanagan won the English Super-Featherweight Title by Unanimous Points Decision over Dougie Curran of Newcastle.

Also on the VIP Promotions and BoxAcademy fightnight – Callum Johnson of Boston forced a seventh round stoppage over experienced James Tucker of Doncaster in their eight round Light-Heavyweight contest and Liverpool’s Joe Selkirk out-pointed Jason Ball of Doncaster in their eight round Light-Middleweight Contest.

Terry Flanagan (Manchester) v Dougie Curran (Newcastle)
Vacant BBBofC English Super-Featherweight Title

Both men got off to a good start – but Flanagan was the sharper of the two and as the fight progressed – Dougie the ‘Bullet’ seemed to flag. He sustained a nick to the left brow but it didn’t prove a problem. Flanagan though was warned a number of times for holding and was finally deducted a point in the fifth by Referee Howard Foster.
Flanagan went on to secure the Unanimous Points victory and improves to 14 wins (4 by KO)
Curran drops to 5 wins 12 losses (2 by KO) and 2 draws.

Callum Johnson (Boston, Linc) v James Tucker (Doncaster)
8 x 3 Light Heavyweight Contest

Callum ‘The One’ Johnson proved impressive against normally durable James ‘Slugger’ Tucker. Johnson looked classy using his long-reaching left to target Tuckers head. The Doncaster man was pressured in his own corner and off-balance as he’d stepped on the bottom rope when Referee Phil Edwards jumped in to stop the contest.
Johnson wins by seventh round TKO and improves to 5 wins (3 by KO).
Tucker drops to 6 wins (2 by KO) 50 losses (3 by KO) and 3 draws.

Joe Selkirk (Liverpool) v Jason Ball (Doncaster)
8 x 3 Light Middleweight Contest

Selkirk wins on points (77-75) against ‘Daddy Cool’ Ball and improves to 9 wins (5 by KO) while Ball drops to 5 wins (4 by KO) 7 losses (1 by KO) and 1 draw.

Shayne Singleton (Colne) v Mark McKray (Tottenham)
6 x 3 Light Welterweight Contest

Popular Singy wins on points 59-55 against Jamaican born McKray and improves to 12 wins (3 by KO)
McKray drops to 2 wins (1 by KO) 11 losses (3 by KO) and 1 draw

Paul Butler (Ellesmere Port) v Hyusein Hyuseinov (Bulgaria)
6 x 3 Super Flyweight Contest

Butler used both head and body-shots to pressure the Bulgarian who was on both knees in the third. Referee Phil Edwards gave the count but Hyuseinov was still on his knees when Referee Edwards waved it off.
Baby Faced Assassin Butler wins by third round TKO and improves to 7 wins (3 by KO) while Hyuseinov drops to 6 wins (3 by KO) 20 losses (8 by KO)

Rocky Fielding (Liverpool) v Ciaran Healy (Belfast, N.I.)
6 x 3 Light Heavyweight Contest

Healy was forced to retire at the end of the 4th round with a shoulder injury having had to take a count in the third.
Fielding improves to 10 wins (4 by KO) while Healy drops to 13 wins (4 by KO) 21 losses (9 by KO) and 1 draw.

Tommy Coyle (Hull) v Maurycy Gojko (Poland)
6 x 3 Light Welterweight Contest

Coyle scored a Second round TKO over Polish boxer Gojko who was forced to his knee and could not continue.
Coyle improves to 12 wins (4 by KO) while Gojko drops to19 wins (6 by KO) 32 losses (8 by KO) and 1 draw

Sam Omidi (Manchester) v Billy Smith (Worcester)
4 x 3 Light Middleweight Contest

Popular Sam ‘Shokz’ notched up his second pro-win by out-pointing experienced Billy Smith (40-37) but it wasn’t all plain-sailing for the Manchester man who ‘holds-on’ to Smith in the second round. He targeted the head with lefts and wide sweeping rights to secure the points victory.
Smith’s record now stands at 13 wins 114 losses (8 by KO) and 2 draws.

Alex Rutter (Oldham) v Delroy Spencer (Wolverhampton)
4 x 3 Super Bantamweight Contest

Debutant Rutter aka ‘Big Al’ had a tough first contest against experienced Spencer. It was a messy round three but Rutter prevailed to get his first pro-win on points (40-37) against the veteran.
Spencer drops to 14 wins (1 by KO) 137 losses (12 by KO) and 3 draws.

Chris Billam Smith fighting for Zuffa for the first time this Saturday. I think he is being set up to face Jai Opetia later in the contract. Chris got easily beaten by Zurdo in a unification and we all kn […]

  • Where does Usyk go from here? 27/05/2026
For once, I’m totally on board with the WBC. WBC moves to shut down Usyk-Verhoeven rematch talk I personally have NO wish to see a rematch between Rico and Usyk. Call it defensiveness of our sport. Just like I thought Fury’s narrow escape against Ngannou was cringeworthy… I also feel a sense of dread that we came “this close” to having a kickboxer defeat the […]
