In support of the much awaited John McDermott vs. Tyson Fury English heavyweight title fight this Friday, September 11, promoter Frank Maloney presents a competitive undercard at Brentwood Centre in Essex.
Topping off the support card is former British light middleweight champion Gary Woolcombe, 27-2 (10), who meets experienced ex-European title challenger Roman Dzuman, 23-7-1 (10), over ten rounds.
Woolcombe has scored victories his last two bouts after losing the British belt to domestic rival Ryan Rhodes last year but the Londoner must win convincingly against his Ukrainian opponent if he is to get another high profile opportunity.
Dzuman will attempt to return to the win column after facing the murderous lineup of Jamie Moore, Alexander Abraham and Zaurbek Baysangurov over the last 18 months.
Flashy young flyweight Ashley Sexton, 7-0 (3), puts his undefeated record on the line against his most experienced foe to date, Brazilian import Darli Goncalves Pires, 17-7-1 (8), over eight scheduled rounds.
Should Sexton come through this test, he’ll likely next challenge for domestic honors later this year.
A pair of six round bouts features destructive heavyweight Tom Dallas, 6-0 (4), facing Mihaly Nemet, 12-15-1 (4), and welterweight Scott Woolford, 8-4 (1), coming to grips with William Warburton, 1-3-1 (0).
A brace of four frame contests rounds out the bill.
Undefeated light welter stylist Tyrone Nurse, 8-0 (0), squares off with well-traveled Daniel Thorpe, 23-84-3 (9), while big punching Larry Olubamiwo, 4-1 (4), trades leather with Norbert Sallai, 9-11 (2).
Welterweight prospects Martin Welsh, 1-0 (0), and Vinny Woolford, 2-0 (1), do battle while middleweight Tony Hill and light middle Eric Ochieng make their professional debuts with Hill making his case against Stuart Barr, 1-0 (0), and Ochieng going up against hard man Matt Scriven, 13-54 (1).
