Newly crowned IBF junior lightweight champion, Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (25-1-1, 17 KO’s), had a smile on his face when he heard the news that undefeated WBO super featherweight champion, Roman “Rocky” Martinez (22-0-1, 13 KO’s), is seeking a unification bout with him.
Guerrero, a three-time world champion in two weight classes, had this to say when asked if he would welcome a fight with Martinez, “Bring it. If Martinez gets past his next opponent, I would love to fight him.”
“He is a worthy champion that says he never refuses to fight anyone, anywhere, well if that is the case, than lets do this! A unification bout between Martinez and me is great for our sport and the fans deserve these types of fights.”
It’s no secret; Mexico pitted against Puerto Rico is boxing’s most heated rivalry. Guerrero went on to say, “Being that I’m Mexican-American, a fight against Martinez brings two cultures together for a fabulous night of boxing. He says nobody can stop him, we’ll see if he can handle the heat that’s going to be coming from my fists.
“I believe in myself and the great team around me. If he steps in the ring with me, he’ll find out real quick that he’s in a battle. Martinez is a good fighter, but I believe God has blesse d me with the more superior attributes. I hope this fight happens.”
“The Ghost” recently defeated former two-time world champion Malcolm Klassen, a fight in which Guerrero almost broke the punch stat record, throwing 1,200 punches.
