Last night at ‘The Venue’ in Dudley, England, PJ Rowson and Errol Johnson of First Team Promotions hosted a fight night which provided action from five bouts.
Martin Gordon (Dudley) v Kristian Laight (Nuneaton)
6 x 2 Welterweight Contest
It was a close contest between these two but Gordon had a good round four – possibly because he thought it was a four-round contest!
He kept going though for the next two rounds to secure the points win 58-57 against experienced Laight.
Gordon improves to 2 wins, 6 losses and 2 draws while Laight drops to 6 wins, 66 losses (3 by KO) and 5 draws.
Sam Padgett (Dudley) v Dave Sadler (Leeds)
4 x 2 Middleweight Contest
Padgett sustains a cut to the right brow in round two but digs in for a big round three to win on points, 40-36. He improves to 2 wins (1 by KO)and no losses while Sadler drops to no wins and 4 losses (1 by KO).
Richard Ghent (Coseley) v Daniel Thorpe (Sheffield)
4 x 3 Light Welterweight Contest
Ghent won convincingly over veteran Thorpe to get a points win 40-36 and improves to 4 wins (1 by KO) and no losses, while Thorpe drops to 23 wins (9 by KO), 87 losses (22 by KO) and 3 draws.
Jamie Ball (Coseley) v Danny Dontchev (Tooting / Bulgaria)
4 x 3 Middleweight Contest
Southpaw ‘Bully’ scored success with the straight right over Bulgarian-born Dontchev.
Dontchev hit Ball on two occasions – on a ‘break’ which resulted in a point deduction in the fourth round.
Perhaps ‘wound-up’ by the points penalty – Dontchev went after Ball, managing to ‘catch’ the Coseley man two or three times with decent head shots.
“Calm Down, Danny – let him come to you!” Shouted Manager Mickey Helliot ringside, but it was over all too quick and an ’unruffled’ Jamie Ball gets the points win 40-35, improving to 8 wins (1 by KO) and no losses.
Dontchev falls to 1 win (1 by KO) and 12 losses (5 by KO).
Chris Male (Dudley) v Sid Razak (Birmingham)
8 x 2 Super Featherweight Contest
Male – undoubtedly the busier of the two men – looked sharp against experienced Birmingham man Razak.
Male wins on points 80-73 to notch up his seventh points win against no losses while Razak falls to 4 wins (3 by KO) and 33 losses (2 by KO).
