Friday night at the Heritage Hotel in Derby, England, Clifton Mitchell hosted a Boxing dinner event which would see three contests.
The hotel suite was packed with guests enjoying a meal. An auction of boxing memorabilia followed and a comedian preceded the boxing.
Results as follows:
Andrew Ingram (Birmingham) v Shane McPhilbin (Nottingham)
6 Round Heavyweight Contest
Debutant Ingram endured his first – rather messy – pro fight against local man McPhilbin. Despite losing a point in the final round – ‘The Assassin’ secured the points win, 58-56.
Ingram notches up his first win while McPhilbin drops to 1 win and 1 loss.
Jatinder Johal (Derby) v Danny Dontchev (Tooting)
6 Round Welterweight Contest
There was plenty of drama in this six rounder. Bulgarian born Dontchev’s head is rocked back from a decent head-shot inside the last half minute of round one. Johal has a good round two and three but sustains a cut to the right brow in the third.
Dontchev has ‘come to fight’ and lunges forward continuously. Round four sees the Bulgarian-born Londoner on the canvas – which looks like a slip – and despite his protestations he’s counted by referee Shaun Messer.
Johal goes on to win on points, 58-55, to secure his first win against 1 loss while Dontchev falls to 1 win (1 by KO) and 14 losses (5 by KO).
Matt Hainy (Duffield) v Elvis Dube
6 Round Super Middleweight Contest
There was huge support for popular Hainy as he came to the ring. But opponent Dube did not give Hainy an easy time of it. Landing big body-shots, particularly in round three, the Shinfield’s boxer looked focussed.
“Let ‘em go, Elvis!”, trainer Jason Shinfield shouts from his corner and Dube obliges with another solid shot to the body. But local man Hainy was defiant – throwing left and right uppercuts to keep Dube at bay.
Hainy secures the points win, 59-56, and improves to 5 wins and 1 loss. Clearly delighted with the win, ‘Left Hook Hainy’ does a split in celebration! Dube drops to 1 win (1 by KO) and 3 losses (1 by KO).
