Last night, at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California, British female boxer Lyndsey Scragg challenged Peruvian born Kina Malpartida of California for the WBA Female Super Featherweight title.
But it was Champion Malpartida who dominated with long-reaching shots to the head of the Wednesbury boxer. Continually driving forward – taller, rangey Malpartida kept Scragg on the back foot.
Despite what looked like heavy punches landing to Scragg’s face, she took them well and her confidence swelled when she put the Champion on the canvas in the sixth round.
Malpartida threw a right to the head of Scragg, who immediately counters off the ropes with a sweet short left hook. The Champion drops heavily to her knees and is forced to take a count.
Both women see it out to the end of the contest with Malpartida retaining the title by unanimous points win 98-91, 98-91, 97-92.
Malpartida’s record improves to 11 wins (3 by KO) and 3 losses (1 by KO) while Scragg drops to 10 wins (3 by KO) and 2 losses.
