Yesterday, at Hatton’s Fitness Gym in Hyde, England, Ricky Hatton hosted the official weigh-in ahead of tonight’s’Friday Fightnight at the Altrincham Leisure Centre, Cheshire.
Boasting a ten-bout ‘card’ – the bill will headline two title fights. Rob Norton of Stourbridge faces David Dolan of Sunderland for the British and Commonwealth Cruiserweight titles.
Norton and Dolan met in February last year when Norton won by unanimous points decision. Norton was put on the canvas three times and Dolan – twice, during the fight. The re-match tonight is sure to be a thriller with both men hoping to win decisively.
David Dolan weighed in at 200 pounds exactly while a smiling Norton tipped the scales at 198 and a half pounds.
The second title fight of the night will be the vacant English Lightweight title clash between Graeme ‘Dezzie’ Higginson of Blackburn and Martin Gethin of Walsall.
Both Higginson and Gethin weighed 134 and a half pounds.
Destined to be another thriller of a contest is the re-match between Paul Samuels of Newport, Wales and Cello Renda of Peterborough. Their last fight in November saw Samuels on the canvas in round one, Renda getting a cut and – more notably – a double knockdown in the second! Renda lost by TKO round three.
Both men gave each other huge respect when they met at yesterdays weigh-in. Samuels weighed 162 and a half pounds and Renda at 162.
Other weights yesterday were:
10 Round British Welterweight Eliminator:
Mark Thompson- 146.5
Kevin McIntyre- 146.5
6 Round Featherweight Contest:
Joe Murray- 125
George Mchedlishvili- 123.75
Steve Foster, Matty Askin and Craig Lyon all weighed in without problem.
Tonight’s fightnight at Altrincham Leisure Centre is promoted by Hatton Promotions. First bell is at 6.30 pm
