The world’s top super bantam was in action on Thursday night as Poonsawat Kratindaenggym retained his WBA crown in devastating fashion at Borabue School Arena in Maha Sarakham, Thailand.
Having won the WBA belt after a three year PABA title reign by crushing Bernard Dunne last September, Kratindaenggym was making his second defense, facing the challenge of former Japanese strapholder Shoji Kimura.
Kimura was fighting outside his native Japan for the first time but found the gulf in skill and experience against Kratindaenggym to be too wide.
The Yokohama man came to fight but was no match for former WBA Interim bantamweight boss Kratindaenggym, who knocked out the visitor at 2:23 of the fourth round.
Kratindaenggym was facing a Japanese fighter for his second consecutive match and had a much easier time of it than in his previous bout, a majority decision victory in Tokyo over previously undefeated OPBF featherweight champion Satoshi Hosono in January.
Kratindaenggym improves to 41-1 (29), running his win streak to 17 bouts, with all but three ending early while Kimura drops to 23-4-2 (9).
