Boxing In Australia: Darchinyan Dominates Barcelona For Vacant IBO Crown

The Leagues Club in the Sydney suburb of Parramatta hosted one of Australia’s greatest talents on Thursday night as Vic Darchinyan added yet another title belt to his already bursting trophy cabinet.

The 34 year old southpaw took home world honors for the first time as a bantamweight, outpointing Filipino visitor Eric Barcelona over 12 very one-sided rounds.

Darchinyan battered his fellow lefty opponent from pillar to post, canvassing Barcelona twice in the fifth and once more in the 11th but could not finish off the iron-chinned Valencia City veteran.

Barcelona gamely managed to finish the fight on his feet but two point deductions didn’t help matters as he lost a unanimous decision by margins of 120-103, 118-105 and 116-107.

“Raging Bull” Darchinyan captures the vacant IBO bantamweight title and improves to 35-2-1 (27). Barcelona goes to 51-18-4 (19), losing his second straight contest.
