Last Saturday Night at the Municipal Hall in Colne, England, VIP Promotions (Steve Wood) presented a night of boxing which featured six bouts from local boxers.

Shayne Singleton (Colne) v Kristian Laight (Nuneaton)
4 Round Lightweight Contest

There was huge support (as usual) for local boxer – Singleton. Before fighting commenced – he stood on the canvas and led a roar of applause in dedication to his recently deceased friend – Lee.

Once in action – ‘Singy’ fought confidently against a durable Laight. ‘Singy, Singy’ the supporters cheered as he pressured Laight on the ropes at the end of the third. But it was very hot inside the Muni and the fourth and final round sees him keen to get it over with (!)

Singleton improves to 5 wins (2 by KO) and no losses while Laight drops to 6 wins, 75 losses (4 by KO) and 6 draws.

Patrick ‘Liam’ Walsh (Halifax) v Dale Hutchinson (Sheffield)
6 Round Light Welterweight Contest

Walsh dominated using left and rights to the head of Ingle-boxer Hutchinson . Hutchinson finds himself on the canvas after a right punch to the head in the fourth, and though he takes the count – he is stopped by Referee John Latham.

Walsh improves to 3 wins (1 by KO)and no losses while Hutchinson drops to no wins, 3 losses (2 by KO) and 1 draw.

Chris O’Brien ( Burnley) v Ben Lawlor (Skegness)
6 Round Welterweight Contest

O’Brien had a closely fought contest against Lawlor – securing a 59-56 points win in this six rounder. His bruised, swollen right eye courtesy of Lawlor’s punches.

O’Brien improves to 7 wins (1 by KO) and 2 draws, while Lawlor drops to 6 wins (1 by KO)and 4 losses (2 by KO).

Lee Bennett (Burnley) v Joe Smith (Swansea, Wales)
6 Round Welterweight Contest

Two debutants, both hoping for a victory in their first pro-contest! But it was Bennett who secured the points win 58-56 in this all-action contest despite suffering bad cuts to both eyes.

Steve Harkin (Liverpool) v Ally Morrison (Penrith)
4 Round Middleweight Contest

A draw for these two boxers 59-59. Harkin improves to 3 wins (1 by KO), no losses and 1 draw. Morrison improves to 2 wins, 3 losses (1 by KO) and 2 draws.

Wayne Bennett (Burnley) v Shaun Gorman (Aberystwyth)
6 Round Light Welterweight Contest

Another two debutants hoping for a win! But it’s Bennett who gets the points victory 58-56 despite a bad cut to the left brow area from a clash of heads early in the opening round.

  • Errol Spence v Tim Tszyu - June 2026 07/04/2026
The clash between Spence and Tszyu had reportedly been lined up to take place in June. Tim did suffer a cut in his bout against Nurja, which could potentially delay proceedings. I am concerned that Spence has not fought for years now and having no warm up. This may show that he has not much left and cashing in. Tszyu secured a one-sided unanimous decision wi […]

Negotiations for a WBO and WBA welterweight unification clash between Devin Haney and Rolly Romero have reportedly collapsed. Organisers had planned for the fight to headline a PBC event on May 30, live on Amazon Prime PPV. Haney has turned down the fight. The reason for Haney pulling the plug is that he wasn’t offered a guaranteed purse. PBC instead propose […]

Rene’s not talked about much. Even here in Puerto Rico he’s not as well known as Xander Zayas or even Oscar Collazo. But he’s got 2 of the 4 belts in the division, and tonight he defends them against Masataka Taniguchi in Japan. Gotta hand it to him. This is his 3rd straight fight in Japan. I admire any fighter who’s willing to go halfway around the world to […]
