8 Count Boxing: Undercard For Tonight’s Chicago Fight Card

ByBoxing Press 06/08/2010

Final details have been announced for a sensational evening of world class professional boxing tonight at Chicago’s UIC Pavilion.

The seven bout action packed card is presented by Chicago ’s 8 Count Productions in association with Vega Boxing

Headlining is a ten round welterweight showdown between hard punching Columbian banger Breidis Prescott and Dominican veteran Harrison Cuello.

The 27 year old Prescott , 22-2-0 with 19 knockouts, is coming off a third round knockout of Jason Davis on May 15th at New York City ’s Madison Square Garden .

A professional for five years, Prescott is best known for his spectacular first round knockout of current world champion Amir Khan on September 6, 2008 at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester , England.

Sporting a record of 19-12-3 with fourteen stoppages, southpaw spoiler Cuello most recently won an eight round majority decision over former world champion Stevie Forbes on March 6th at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville , Connecticut.

A nine year professional, Cuello has fought a lengthy list of champions and contenders including Randall Bailey, DeMarcus Corley, Vanes Martirosyan, Edgar Santana, Mike Arnaoutis, Ricardo Williams Jr., and Rashad Holloway.

The co-main event showcases junior welterweight prospects Prenice Brewer of Cleveland , Ohio and Londonberry , New Hampshire native Patrick Lopez,

Brewer, 15-0-1 with six knockouts, made his ESPN2 Friday Night Fights debut on March 19th, looking terrific in a six round unanimous decision win over Christopher Fernandez.

Lopez, 19-2-0 (11KO’s), has won four in a row, including two shutout unanimous decision wins over Cristian Favela on April 23rd and former world title challenger John Brown on January 22nd, both of which took place in Ontario , California .

In a special feature attraction bout, Chicago based heavyweight contender Mike Mollo returns to the UIC Pavilion to face veteran Gary Gomez of Salt Lake City , Utah .

The 30 year old Mollo, 20-3-0 with twelve stoppages, engaged in a terrific eight round war with Billy Zumbrun on March 26th at the UIC Pavilion, taking a unanimous decision.

Gomez has amassed a record of 18-11-1 with seven stoppages over his nine year professional career.

In July 2008 at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom, Gomez fought current heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek in an outstanding battle, which was prematurely stopped due to a hand injury suffered by Gomez in the seventh round.

The outstanding undercard includes terrific young Chicago based prospect Jaime Herrera.

Fighting as a welterweight, 21 year old Herrera has looked outstanding in his first three professional bouts, winning all three, two by knockouts, each taking place at the UIC Pavilion in front of his growing legion of fans.

Herrera will face off against Beloit, Wisconsin native Joshua Rodriguez, 2-5-0 (1KO) in a scheduled four rounder.

In a fantastic four round lightweight bout, Chicago prospects Antonio Avila and Russell Fiore will battle in the squared circle.

Avila, 3-1-0 with one stoppage, is returning after a terrific performance in his last bout, a four round shutout unanimous decision over David Laque on May 29th at the UIC Pavilion.

Fiore, 4-0-0 with four knockouts, stopped veteran Terrance Roy in the first round on May 29th.

Also returning to action at the UIC Pavilion, Chicago based newcomer Genaro Mendez, 1-0-0 will battle Milwaukee ’s Alexander Tousignant, 1-3-0 (1KO) in a scheduled four round welterweight tilt.

Mendez had a very successful pro debut on June 19th, winning a four round unanimous decision over Gabriel Morris.

Rounding out the undercard, pro debuting Chicagoan Antonio Canas will battle Mishawaka, Indiana’s William Bokhart, 0-1-0.

Advance tickets starting at $31, are available through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com), the UIC Pavilion Box Office (312-413-5740) and the 8 Count Productions’ Office (312-226-5800).

Further information on these and other bouts will be announced shortly.
