Boxing Result: Lazarte Retains IBF Over Espinoza In Argentina

On Saturday night, the action in Argentina took place at Club Once Unidos in Mar De Plata as IBF light flyweight kingpin Luis Alberto Lazarte outfought Nerys Espinoza over 12 tough rounds.

Espinoza came into the bout having failed to unseat the champion in two previous title bids but the Nicaraguan held a massive height advantage and 10 year edge in youth over the 39 year old Lazarte.

The challenger started fast, hoping to wear down Lazarte but found it difficult to pin down the diminutive Mar Del Plata resident, who showed good footwork to stick and move while avoiding trouble.

By the middle rounds, the skill advantage enjoyed by Lazarte started to come into play with Espinoza falling behind and the champion getting more accurate in the measure of his rival.

As the bout wore on, the fighters started to trade evenly before Espinoza took control as Lazarte began to flag from his earlier efforts.

However, Lazarte reasserted his authority in the championship rounds, drilling the challenger at will and shaking Espinoza with powerful single shots to close out the contest.

Lazarte won a unanimous decision by scores of 116-111 on all three cards, retaining his IBF belt for the first time while Espinoza sees a three bout won streak snapped, falling to 29-6-1 (20).
