Boxing In Mexico: Saturday Night Results

It was a good Saturday evening of boxing in Mexico with two title and one interim title bout on tap in two different cities.

Arena Solidaridad in Monterrey was the site of a dominating effort by WBO flyweight champ Julio Cesar Miranda, who put a forceful end to the challenge of Ronald Ramos.

Mexico’s Miranda left the blocks flying, putting Colombian visitor Ramos on the floor in the first frame and never letting off the gas from that point onward.

Ramos beat the count but could never get going in the hometown of Miranda, losing countless exchanges and in general, was simply outfought in every round.

After eight one sided sessions with Miranda doling out a stern education, Ramos was kept in his corner, bringing the contest to a close.

Miranda, 33-5-1 (26), successfully defends the WBO crown for the first time while Ramos drops to 29-9-3 (15) after losing to two world champions in his last three fights.

The undercard saw a battle of power punchers as WBC Continental Americas super fly titlist Hugo Ruiz, 26-1 (25), was taken the distance for the first time in his career, posting a 12 round UD over former beltholder Jesus Vasquez, 19-5-1 (17).

Guadalajara’s Coliseo Olimpico De La UG hosted a WBC light flyweight title clash between reigning champ Omar Nino Romero, 30-3-2 (12), and challenger Ronald Barrera, 27-8-2 (17).

Despite engaging in previous world title bouts and title eliminators, Barrera was just not ready to take on Romero, who outboxed the Colombian at every turn and convinced the battered Barrera to stay on his stool after six rounds.

The undercard saw Jorge Solis, 40-2-2 (29), keep hold of his WBA super feather belt by dropping previously unbeaten Francisco Cordero, 23-1 (15), in the first and fourth rounds before closing the show at 1:46 of the sixth.
