Showtime Boxing: Fury vs. Power On September 10 ShoBox

ByBoxing Press 07/09/2010

It’s virtually an unwritten rule in boxing that a hyped heavyweight prospect gets to avoid tough fights in order to build up his record. Step forward Tyson Fury to shatter that myth.

In just his 12th pro fight, British 6ft 9in Heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury (11-0, 9 KO’s), of Manchester / Galway, will make his US television debut on “ShoBox: The New Generation” in one of the stiffest tests any prospect could hope to face in 6ft 4in American Rich “Super” Power (12-0-0, 9 KO’s) at York Hall on Friday, September 10th.

The Fury and O’Donnell bouts will be televised in America on Showtime at 11p.m. ET/PT (same day delay). The event will also be shown in Canada on the Super Channel Network.

Quickly becoming one of the world’s most talked-about fighters, Fury wields one of the best jabs in the heavyweight division and an overall arsenal that makes him impossible to overlook.

A win over the unbeaten Power would put Fury at the forefront of any conversation about who is not only one of the best heavyweight prospects in the world, but the best at any weight.

The Michigan-based “Super” Power has yet to taste defeat but is eager to prove that he’s more than just a well-groomed stepping stone.

But despite Power’s record, Fury is ready to put on an impressive show in his US television debut, and show the world that he’s ready to turn the bland heavyweight division on its ear.

“I love making big first impressions, and I’m ready to wow America.” Fury said. “World boxing is dying to get behind a heavyweight that will bring excitement back to the division, and a hammer job on a guy like Powers will show the world that I’m that guy.”

In the televised co-main event, unbeaten former Commonwealth Champion and one of Ireland’s finest boxers John O’Donnell of Shepherd’s Bush, London / Galway will also be making his U.S. TV debut, when he tangles with Olympic bronze medalist American Terrence Cauthen over 12 rounds.

Promoter Mick Hennessy said, “Tyson is a breath of fresh air, and to knock out a quality fighter like John McDermott in his 11th fight, and then to take on a quality unbeaten heavyweight prospect like Rich Power in his next fight is unheard off, let’s not forget Tyson Fury has just turned 22.”

“But then, that’s the type of fighter Fury is, extraordinary.”

On the undercard Colchester’s Lee “Lights Out” Purdy will be back in action for the first time since his gripping 12 round unanimous point’s decision loss for the Commonwealth title against Denton Vassell, Prizefight semi-finalist Daniel Cadman will be showcasing his talents, Phill “Intense” Fury will be looking to continue his winning ways and all will be looking to entertain the York Hall crowd and extend their winning records.

The evening will also see Haddenham’s Tyler Goodjohn (Light Welterweight) and John “the Gorilla” Ryder (Middleweight) of Islington out to make a name for themselves as they both make their professional debuts.

Tickets for this great night of international boxing are on sale now and can be purchased from the Ticketline Box Office on 0844 888 4402 or via www.hennessysports.com. Tickets are £35 for unreserved seats and £60 for Ringside.
