IBO featherweight titlist Jackson Asiku was unseated last night by Jhonny Gonzalez at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas, NV.
Asiku had been out of the ring since winning the IBO crown last November and the Australian based Ugandan native was made to pay dearly for that inactivity.
By contrast, ex-WBO bantam king Gonzalez had five bouts under his belt during the last year since coming off a failed WBC super bantam title shot against Toshiaki Nishioka.
Gonzalez’s greater big fight experience showed as Asiku was downed in the fourth and fifth before the bout was called at 1:09 of the sixth as the big punching Mexican was just too much for the champion to handle.
Gonzalez wins the IBO belt while claiming his sixth victory in a row, improving to 46-7 (40). Asiku sees a 15 contest triumph roll come to a close, dropping to 26-4 (14).
