Matthew Hatton has fired back at Kell Brook telling him: “You’re not even the best in Britain.”
Brook has issued a cheeky challenge to fight Amir Khan and claimed he is the best welterweight in Britain.
European champion Hatton has now thrown down the gauntlet to the British champion, blasting: “He has beaten absolutely nobody apart from Michael Jennings.”
Hatton makes the second defence of his European crown at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium on Friday November 26 against Switzerland’s unbeaten Roberto Belge and hopes to underline his world title credentials.
Magic Matthew, 29, added: “Look at the fighters I have been fighting lately. They can’t be compared with who he has been mixing with. In the last couple of years I have faced Ben Tackie, Lovemore N’Dou, Gianluca Branco and Yuri Nuzhnenko.
“No disrespect to his opponents but he hasn’t been fighting the level I have been facing. Kell is British champion and I am European champion. I consider myself the best in Europe and that includes him.
“I am not worried about Kell. I think we will meet down the line especially if we both keep winning, but I have been beating better opposition. Kell is a real good talented but untested. He won the British title outright but never fought the best welterweights in Britain.”
Hatton-Belge will be televised live on Sky Sports and Hatton Promotions Director of Boxing, Richard Poxon has put together an undercard of the highest quality.
Commonwealth middleweight champion Martin Murray aims to become a double champion when he tees off with Brazil’s former world title challenger Carlos Nascimento for the vacant WBA international crown.
On the same bill, Bury’s impressive WBA international champion Scott Quigg will be bidding for his 21st consecutive win, but faces good Frenchman Daniel Kodjo Sassou – his toughest opponent to date.
The rest of the undercard features some of Hatton Promotions talented prospects including Matty Askin, Adam Etches, Tasif Khan and Beijing Olympian Joe Murray.
