Matchroom Boxing: Fields Vows To Win Prizefighter By KO

ByBoxing Press 5/4/2011

American giant Tye Fields says his quick starts will be the key to victory in the Prizefighter International Heavyweights on May 7 at Alexandra Palace.

The eight contenders from eight different countries are battling it out in the unique tournament in north London, a celebration of World Heavyweight boxing live on Sky Sports this Saturday night from 9pm.

But the 6ft 8in Fields has warned his fellow fighters that he plans to live up to his knockout reputation and add to his incredible record of killer blows, holding 41 knockouts from 45 wins, and the American who now calls Edmonton in Canada home predicts he’ll add to his phenomenal 25 first round KOs.

“I start fast, I hit big and I hit often, so I think that Prizefighter is perfect for my style,” said Fields. “I’ve been working at a real high intensity in training and my plan is to go out with controlled fury and demolish these guys fast to save my energy for the next fight. It’s a brilliant concept for a tournament but if you don’t prepare right, three fights in one night is a going to be gruelling. So I will be looking to get my fights done fast.”

Fields faces UK Prizefighter Champion Michael Sprott in a transatlantic tussle in the third quarter-final and the man known as ‘Big Sky’ knows if he can get past the Reading fighter aiming for back-to-back Prizefighter titles and go onto claim the £32,000 winner’s cheque, his career will skyrocket back in

“My fan base would explode as they’d love to see a champion here in Edmonton,” said Fields. “The opportunity to make a lot of money is always nice but I have a fight pencilled in for late June so if I win it, people would be coming to that fight to see the guy who went to England and beat a heap of top-class Heavyweights to win Prizefighter.”

Fields is in London for the first time and while his eyes are firmly set on become Prizefighter’s first International King, the 32 year-old intends to hit the sights at some point, and he’s determined to add his own glory to the feel good factor in the capital after the Royal Wedding.

“I didn’t get invited to the wedding but I’m here for the after party!” said Fields. “It’s my first time in London so I’ll get my training in early and check some of the museums and stuff out.”

Fields and Sprott will face the winner of the fourth quarter-final between unbeaten Romanian Lucian Bot and hard-hitting German Konstantin Airich in the second semi-final. Irish-based Cuban Mike Perez puts his unbeaten record on the line in the opening bout against Trinidad and Tobago hitter Kerston Manswell.

The victor in that bout faces either American World title challenger Kevin ‘Kingpin’ Johnson or French champ Gregory Tony.

Tickets for Prizefighter International Heavyweights at London’s Alexandra Palace on Saturday 7 May are available from Matchroom Sport priced £35 unreserved, £50 and £60 ringside and £120 VIP – to buy call Matchroom Sport on 01277 359900.

Callum Smith has pulled out of the David Morrell fight which was due to take place in his hometown Liverpool on 18rh April. I was looking forward to this fight. Ben Whittaker will be headlining the event now. talksp […]
  • Errol Spence v Tim Tszyu - June 2026 4/7/2026
The clash between Spence and Tszyu had reportedly been lined up to take place in June. Tim did suffer a cut in his bout against Nurja, which could potentially delay proceedings. I am concerned that Spence has not fought for years now and having no warm up. This may show that he has not much left and cashing in. Tszyu secured a one-sided unanimous decision wi […]

Negotiations for a WBO and WBA welterweight unification clash between Devin Haney and Rolly Romero have reportedly collapsed. Organisers had planned for the fight to headline a PBC event on May 30, live on Amazon Prime PPV. Haney has turned down the fight. The reason for Haney pulling the plug is that he wasn’t offered a guaranteed purse. PBC instead propose […]
  • Rene Santiago to defend his WBA and WBO junior flyweight belts in Japan 4/2/2026
Rene’s not talked about much. Even here in Puerto Rico he’s not as well known as Xander Zayas or even Oscar Collazo. But he’s got 2 of the 4 belts in the division, and tonight he defends them against Masataka Taniguchi in Japan. Gotta hand it to him. This is his 3rd straight fight in Japan. I admire any fighter who’s willing to go halfway around the world to […]

Is this just mind games to help AJ gain confidence to […]
