This Saturday at Staples Center, in Los Angeles, WBC female super welterweight champion Christy Martin returns to the ring for the first time in two years, completing a personal and professional comeback. Seeking her landmark 50th career victory, she will be facing Dakota Stone in a rematch of their 2009 world title fight, won narrowly by Martin.
The Martin vs. Stone battle will highlight the non-televised undercard of “The Son Also Rises: Sebastian Zbik vs. Julio César Chávez Jr. World Middleweight Championship,” Saturday, June 4 at Staples Center.
Martin, her attorney Gloria Allred, and Stone will join Zbik, Chávez Jr. and their respective trainers, former world lightweight champion “King” Artur Grigorian and Freddie Roach, Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum and Méxican icon Julio César Chávez Sr., at their Final News Conference Luncheon, tomorrow, Wednesday, June 1, in the Golden State Ballroom at the Wilshire Grand Los Angeles, beginning at Noon PT.
HBO will televise the Zbik vs. Chávez Jr. world middleweight title tilt live, beginning at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast). The broadcast will open with undefeated No. 1 contender Mikey Garcia taking on Miguel Beltran Jr. in a 10-round featherweight rumble.
Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Zanfer Promotions, Universum Media Network, Tecate and Staples Center, “The Son Also Rises: Zbik vs. Chávez, Jr. World Middleweight Championship” takes place this Saturday June 4, at Staples Center, and marks the first fight Chávez Jr. has fought in Los Angeles in six years.
