It’s finally here ! The much anticipated showdown for the World Heavyweight Unification clash between Wladimir Klitschko and David Haye happens tonight – at the Imtech Arena, Hamburg, Germany !
Yesterdays weighin saw crazy scenes with hundreds of British and German fans packed in to a shopping centre. Haye – taunting a cool, expressionless Klitschko in the face-off – looked clearly thrilled at the attendance from Haye fans. But Klitschko didn’t look at all fazed by the overpowering Brits chanting ‘You’re supposed to be at home’!
Haye – up on the scales first – weighed in at 15 stone 3 pounds, followed by Klitschko at 17 stone 5 pounds (having a thirty pound weight advantage).
The run-up this week has seen the super-confident Hayemaker keen to continue his verbal slating of Klitschko, in an attempt to ‘wind’ the Ukranian ‘up’. “It’s going to be fun to watch this big robot malfunctioning fast!” he said. Klitschko meanwhile, didn’t look surprised or bothered when Haye refused to shake his hand – calm as ever – Dr. Steelhammer reaffirmed that he was very happy to be fighting in Germany.
Betting today sees Klitschko the favourite with William Hill offering a Haye win at 7/4 and a Klitschko win at 2/1 on. Betting suggests that Klitschko’s chances of winning increase as the fight progresses from the mid to later rounds. A lot of people who are opting for a Haye TKO / KO – have favoured round six.
It’s clear though, that despite the British support – not all Brits are expecting to see Haye win, it’s more of a ‘Heart or head decision’ (as Lennox Lewis puts it).
The Klitschko v Haye fight-night is being screened live from 8 pm on Sky Sports Box Office.
The under-card also features the rematch between Brit-Boxers – Ashley Sexton and Mike Robinson.
