Giant heavyweight prospect Tye “Railroad” Fields gets the chance to advance his career tally to thirty-four wins with only one loss this week as he provides the headline fight at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas against veteran campaigner Saul Montana. Thirty-four-year-old Montana has shared a ring with some very serious names over the course of his career, mainly in losing efforts as his record of forty-four wins and twelve losses suggests. Nevertheless, a man who has fought the likes of James Toney, Virgil Hill and Vassiliy Jirov will likely provide a tougher test for Fields than anyone the big American has faced to date. Fields was matched with no hopers throughout the first seventeen fights of his career, and paid the price when he was knocked out by lightly regarded Jeff Ford in one round. After returning the favor, Fields went on to dictate a more studied approach to the game, taking boxing more seriously after the setback and trying to become a more rounded fighter. Input from Emanuel Steward cannot have hurt his cause, and this week’s Friday fight gives boxing fans the chance to see how far he has come.
